Ready Reference Treatise: The God of Small Things

About this ebook
But, in the recent years it has been noticed that a very large majority of the students, without reading the original texts, rely on the guide books or notes prepared by their teachers or others. This is definitely not a healthy habit because students do pass their exams with the help of such notes; they miss so many things which haunt them in their later lives.
I would strongly advise all students to read the original text once again even if you have already read it, after reading this short treatise. You will see that the same story, after reading this treatise, will begin to give many new meanings to you.
All the best.

Chapter One: Introduction
The God of Small Things is the first novel authored by Arundhati Roy. The book was published in 1997.
The story is based on the childhood experiences of fraternal twins. During their childhood the twins were guided by the Love Laws which were laid down. It was told them who should be loved, and how, and how much should they love. It is the small things in life which create a great influence, affecting the people’s behaviour and their lives. It is the only book which follows very unconventional themes of fiction writing. The book was highly acclaimed and it brought the Booker Prize in 1977 to Arundhati Roy.
Arundhati Roy had been writing articles, stories, and reviews in the early years of her writing carrier but as of 2010 The God of Small Things was her only published novel. This first novel of hers established her in the literary circles all over the world.
It took her four years to write The God of Small Things. When Mr. Pankaj Mishra, an editor with Harper Collins, read the story, he was very impressed and he sent the manuscript to three British publishers. Arundhati Roy immediately signed a contract with a famous publisher and she was given half a million pounds in advance. The rights to The God of Small Things were sold in twenty one countries.
With time, the book was translated in Hindi and many other languages. In academic circles in the English speaking world, The God of Small
