About this ebook
Irish Genealogy Tips, Techniques and Tales makes a great addition to an Irish family researcher's reference library. The book contains Irish genealogy problem solving tips and techniques, to include: finding an ancestor's birthplace, deciphering illegible handwriting, translating Irish place names, working with transcription errors, and much more. Some Irish roots travel tips, Irish immigration patterns, children name customs, a "brick wall" case study, and a list of popular Irish genealogy reference books are also included. The book ends with a few short Irish traditions and Celtic history stories told with some humorous twists. Beautiful scenic Ireland photos appear throughout the book. May you be blessed with the opportunity to travel to Ireland someday to visit your Irish ancestors' birthplaces and walk in their foot steps. Five percent of the book sales' royalties support selected Irish youth programs in Ireland.
M. D. Healy
A Trinity College Dublin, Ireland graduate, Mike developed his interest and passion for photographing Ireland’s many ancient sites, castles, landscapes, and pubs through his annual trips to Ireland to visit family and friends there. Mike believes in capturing the raw beauty of Ireland in his photos, without much post processing touch-up. He named his photography business Ballycastle Photography in honor of his Irish grandparents who were both born near Ballycastle, a quaint Irish village on the wild, scenic Atlantic coast of north County Mayo, Ireland. His Irish grandparents immigrated to America in 1912 and settled in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to his love of Ireland travel photography, Mike helps people around the world find their Irish ancestors’ origins and birthplaces with his Irish Ancestry Research service business, Ballycastle Irish Genealogy.

This book is written as a labor of love. It is my wish that the contents of this book will help you break through the brick walls, avoid the dead ends, and solve the complex mysteries of Irish genealogy that continue to perplex and frustrate the Irish family history researcher. The book contains short, direct Irish genealogy research tips based on my personal experiences and my many hours of research conducted for international clients searching for their Irish ancestors' origins and birthplaces in Ireland. With the significant growth in genealogy web sites, tools, and services on the internet, an individual today can do much of the research alone. The tips, techniques, and tidbits in this book are proven genealogy research methods that will assist one who is going it alone in the complex and challenging world of Irish genealogy. The unique lessons learned, expressed here in this book, are meant to help protect and prevent the Irish ancestry researcher from hitting a dead end or a brick wall
, or going astray in searching for an Irish ancestor. Although most of the Irish genealogy lessons learned and anecdotes in this book are described from an American perspective, they can be also used by Irish ancestors' descendants of any nationality in any country as well.
