About this ebook

Mikey McElwaine is 14 and dreaming of the girl he longs to meet. She's so real he could almost reach out and touch her, if he didn't keep waking up and getting in trouble with the school bully.

Determined to help him find the mysterious girl from his dreams, Mikey's best friend, Ryan 'Candy' Candler, sets him up on a series of disastrous blind dates; and things only get worse when Candy accidentally sets Mikey up with the bully's girlfriend.

Then Mikey meets Lian, the new girl in town, and she's the girl in his dreams. Her stutter makes her as insecure as Mikey, but she's got a secret that will help her change everything for everyone.

As Mikey and Lian’s relationship grows, so does their self-confidence: Lian wins the hearts of those who mock her stutter; Mikey finds courage to believe in himself. He finally stands up to the bully, and even though Lian saves the day, Mikey walks away with the respect of his peers and himself.

GIRLFRIEND TROUBLE is a heart-warming story about tolerance, understanding and the acceptance of the unpopular kids; it's about having self-confidence, self-respect and respect for one’s peers; and about dealing with bullies both youthful and grown-up.

Although I'd recommend Girlfriend Trouble as a fun read, it also has a serious side. While not excusing bullying behaviour, the author manages to show the reader a way forward, both for bullies and their victims.
