I am a freelance writer born and based in the UK. I have written books on a variety of subjects which interest me. I like books that are short and to the point and therefore write my books based on this principle so that you do not get bogged down with page filling and pointless waffle, but get the information that you need, quickly and easily. I hope that you agree that this means readers can manage their time better and move on to actually applying the principles in the books.

Jane sat on the beach and took a deep breath of sea air. The warm autumn sun made her feel a little too warm in her cardigan, but she kept it wrapped around her for comfort. She listened to the tide moving the shingle up and down the beach and looked across the sea at the hazy boat shapes far away. She could hear some murmuring as people walked along the promenade above her, taking a stroll after having their breakfasts. Like her, needing a rest after eating far too much, just because it was on offer.

She always started her mornings with a cooked breakfast. She would then head to the beach for a rest until it went down and she could have a walk along the pebbles or dip her toes in the cold sea. She would then head in to town and grab lunch in one of the little coffee shops and then walk some more, sometimes along the cliff paths and normally to a new bay or beach. She might hop on a bus and visit a local town. One day she had a cream tea, but she still felt sick at breakfast time the next morning so tended to opt for a toastie or a sandwich before another walk along the beach and then back to the guest house for a long soak in the bath and a long sleep.

This holiday had been a good idea. Her friends and family had persuaded her that she needed to get away. They said that she needed a break somewhere else so that she could gather her thoughts and digest what had gone on. She was reluctant, knowing that she was fine where she was and reflecting on things in her own way, but they booked it for her anyway and even packed her bags and now here she was. It was nice to be all alone, away from all the phone calls and visits, having time to do things for herself.

Her life had really always been about other people and this was the first time she had ever really been alone. It was rather nice not to have to think about anyone else. She knew that soon she would have a big responsibility and so this small luxury, taking time for just herself, was just what she needed.

As a child Jane had been brought up by rather shy parents which had meant that she did not really learn social skills. She did not have many friends at school, but was used to being part of a close knit family and was happy with that. She studied hard and gained some qualifications, but she decided to work in a shop in her local village, as she did not have the confidence to move away. She was very happy doing that and it helped her get to know a lot more people as her parents did not socialise with the residents of the village. She also got to talk to visitors to the village, as it was a gift shop that she worked in. Her confidence began to grow and she was able to make friends with the shop owner, Lizzie and Isobel who also worked there and they would go out together for drinks and meals which was a lot of fun.

She began to realise why good friendships were important and looked forward to every day at work when she would see her friends and be able to have some fun with them. She would then head back home and have a lovely evening meal with her parents and tell them all about what a good day she had. It was fun being able to tell them about people that came in to the shop and what they bought and things like that. Her parents were very proud of the way that she had blossomed and loved to hear all about her work as they ate their meal together.

She began to spend more time away from home, going out with Lizzie and Isobel for drinks on a Friday night after work and then sometimes for meals as well. She felt that she was beginning to move away from being as close to her parents, but knew that this was going to happen eventually as she got older. She was approaching her twenties now and knew that many of the people she went to school with had moved out of home by now. Quite a few had got married or were living with partners and some even had children. Jane had never had a boyfriend, she had never even had a close girlfriend before now and so there was never really the opportunity to move out with anyone and a shop girls wages were not enough to pay rent. She always gave money to her parents for her keep and used the rest for toiletries, clothes and her evenings out and had hardly any left to save each month.

She had crushes on boys when she was at school, but had never asked any of them to go out with her. She was too shy to talk to girls normally, let alone a boy that she fancied. She had seen how other girls got their hopes dashed, or how relationships at that age never seemed to work out. She decided it was better that she would not ever have a boyfriend. It all seemed very complicated anyway. Her parents had met when her mother was working as her father's secretary and they hadn't gone out with anyone else. They were very happy together after 25 years of marriage and had the one child that they had always wished for. It was something which Jane aspired to – a long and happy marriage with a few children, but she knew that she should not pressure or rush herself as having lots of failed relationships is not the best basis for a marriage. She had read enough library books and talked enough to her shop friends to know that it
