Jute, known as ‘Golden fiber’, is one of the important commercial fiber crops in our country next to Cotton. Jute is labor intensives crop in which large numbers of labors gets opportunity of earning their livelihood and foreign exchange earning crop i.e. the crop helps in earning valuable foreign currency for the country. There is a great scope of employment for large numbers of labors in the cultivation, Post harvest operations and processing of Jute. Jute is a crop of having most economic importance. The different parts such as leaves, sticks and fibers etc are used in various ways. The intensive method of Jute cultivation is good for the prospect of the country. Attempts have been made in the book to provide technical know-how of the cultivation of Jute to all types of readers particularly students, teachers, research scholars and for those who are going to adopt the cultivation of Jute for their livelihood. Jute cultivation boots up the economic condition of large numbers of farmers engaged in agriculture as their profession.

P.C.Das, born on 3rd February, 1946 in Paik Para, P.S. Jamalpur in the district of Bardhaman, West Bengal in farmer’s family, ex-student, Agriculture Stream of Amarpur Bimala Agricultural Institution (H.S), Bardhaman, and University of Kalyani (Now Bidhanchandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya), Nadia, a Former Teacher in Agronomy of Barabainan Union Samabay Krishi Samity Sikshaniketan, Bardhaman, and a recipient of CWSS Recognition Award, 2012, Bidhanchandra Krishi Viswa vidyalaya , is recognized himself as an eminent author of 45 books in different discipline of Agriculture, both in Bengali and English.
