About this ebook

I was asked by DW Gregory, an award-winning playwrite form the D.C. area, to write this essay. She explores the writing process on her blog. You can find her at www.dwgregory.com. Be sure to check out "Looking Backwards Through A Microscope" while you're there. When she asked me to write this I was a bit concerned because although I've thought about my songwriting and how it comes about, I'd never tried to put it into words. But it came rather easily. So it is because of DW that you are reading this!

    Forward by DW Gregory:

Mike Diehm, a songwriter and poet, accomplishes what I can only dream of---he writes music. As someone who has no musical talent, I stand amazed by anyone who can pull some chords together. So I asked him how he does and this is his answer.
