Zoo Animals A - Deborah Carney

    Preface

I have always been fascinated by zoos and the animals within them. From the zoos of old, where we felt bad for the animals kept in cages that were too small and less than ideal, to the zoos of today with cageless areas where the animals are more at home. Zoos provide us with the opportunity to see and experience animals that we would never be able to see without leaving the United States, and even see native animals that are shy or obscure.

Zoos are also active in animal preservation, providing breeding areas for animal that are endangered. Zoos and animal parks are very active in conservation and repopulating specific animals. One zoo can’t do it all so they cooperate and share.

In the resources as the end of the book are a list of zoos and animal parks, many we have been to, some we have not, but they all have excellent information available on their websites about the animals in their care.

In addition to our series of books on zoo animals, we have books on animals in the wild and several in the works with butterflies and birds.

I hope you enjoy the animals in these pages as much as we enjoyed spending our days with
