The S.M.A.R.T. Strategy: Grooming Your Child for Future Success

About this ebook
These days, going through the honorable but perfunctory routine of raising your child in a comfortable, loving home is not enough. You can spend years overseeing homework, soccer games, dance class, and music lessons but would be remiss in your parental duties if you failed to adequately prepare your child for his future career, many years before he actually starts it.
In the 21st century, the future is a moving target. We are living in a fast-paced society where information exchange flows effortlessly across cities and oceans. The internet and smart devices connect the masses like never before, harnessing the collective power of human ingenuity and changing how business is done and how society functions. As a consequence, the job market and certain industries are constantly evolving. Technological advances create entirely new occupations and make others obsolete. The good paying jobs of the future are likely to be highly specialized and very competitive, and the dynamic nature of the job market requires periodic monitoring so that adjustments can be made mid-course. It is therefore important for a parent to take proactive measures very early on to ensure that her child has all the skills necessary to succeed when he comes of age. Not doing so may cause the child to be unprepared to secure a job that best suits his personality and aptitude. It can set him off on the wrong tangent in life, which could have far reaching consequences.
The S.M.A.R.T. Strategy is a blueprint for success designed for parents to implement on their child, from age zero to eighteen. It was borne out of the author's life experiences of triumph, disappointments, reflections and realizations.
The S.M.A.R.T. Strategy seeks to prevent your child from developing success-limiting behaviors while cultivating the key personality traits and attitudes that lead to big achievement. When completed, your child will possess a mindset that will instinctively guide him on a path towards success throughout his life.

Preface
Preparing your child for success in life is like planting a fragile sapling and nurturing it so that it steadily transforms into a tall, sturdy oak tree. You start by picking a good site that gets plenty of sun and is shielded from pests. Enrich the soil with compost and aerate it. Nurture the sapling so that it takes root. Take care to water it regularly, and buffer it from strong winds when it is still delicate. Although the grandeur of any tree is above the ground, the real action is below, out of sight. Roots divide and spread out, forming a strong foundation capable of withstanding the forces of nature.
These days, going through the perfunctory routine of raising your child in a comfortable, loving home is not enough. You can spend countless hours overseeing homework, soccer games, dance class, and music lessons but would be remiss in your parental duties if you failed to adequately prepare your child for his future career, many years before he actually starts it.
