About this ebook
Realtor Catherine’s rich clients fall for a Victorian Gothic house. With its high pointy roof and peaked windows, marble fireplaces and plaster moldings, it looks just like a haunted house. And Catherine’s bad luck—it turns out actually to be a haunted house.
The rich man who owned the house was murdered, shot in the head as he was working in his study. A week later, his wife was shot as she walked out of her bedroom. Their ghosts are haunting the house. It’s pretty clear they want something. But what? The ghost with the head wound can’t even talk, but he’s trying to.
The clients are really rich and completely insensitive to ghosts, and Catherine can tell they’ll buy the house sooner or later. Till they do, she’ll just have to suck it up, whatever happens. Whatever happens.

Ghost Lovers (Paranormal Mystery)
We want an old house—
An architecturally distinguished house—
"And of course the location is of paramount importance—"
Catherine could tell the Kanes (Amanda and Tony) were going to be a lot of work as clients; but they’d wind up buying something, probably something expensive. So she was going to suck it up and smile, pretty much whatever they did. Amanda was a skinny blonde woman with little features. Tony was the exact opposite.
There’s a house we can look at this afternoon on Strickland Street,
Catherine said. It’s a Victorian Gothic house, six bedrooms and a study.
When that house first rolled by in Catherine’s listings, she thought she’d never show it to anyone, because it was too impractical and expensive. But maybe the Kanes, with their impractical and expensive Italian shoes, were the ones. It was worth a shot.
She drove them up to the house, approaching from the angle that most flattered the house. It looked to be looming over the streets outside its gates as the car drove up. She parked in the drive, and they all got out and admired the high pointy roof and peaked windows and spiky little porch, and then they all clomped up the stairs.
Catherine unlocked the door. As soon as she opened it even a bit, she got a whiff of the smell she hated more then anything—ghosts. There was no way she was walking through a ghost house if she could help it. Oh, maybe we should come back to this one,
she said. As if they were going to come back! Once Catherine got the Kanes into her car, they were all so out of here. She’d invent something later to explain it.
Now that she had the door open, though, the Kanes were unstoppable. Tony charged ahead of Catherine through the door, pushing past her in a way bordering on rude. Tony,
Amanda admonished, hurrying to join him. Catherine watched helplessly. There didn’t seem to be any other choice. She walked into the haunted house, trying to breathe in shallow breaths.
Obviously, Tony and Amanda were completely insensitive to ghosts. They were buzzing through the living room like house-locusts. Look, marble fireplace,
Amanda called out. Her voice echoed in the big high empty room. Just for an instant, Amanda paused and sniffed, but then she shook her head and ran after Tony. They disappeared into the dining room.
Pocket doors!
Amanda’s voice echoed off in the dining room.
Here, too!
shouted Tony gleefully.
Catherine was tense, waiting for the ghost to show up. There was definitely one in the house, because of the smell. But the smell was fainter than it would be if the ghost were in the same room. She’d probably have to walk further to find it. She didn’t want to find it, and she didn’t want to look for it. She wanted to dawdle enough that maybe the Kanes would race through the whole house and back to her, and then they could all leave, without Catherine
