Arise And Shine - Laura Schultz
INTRODUCTION
This collection of poems is about love, loss and transformation that came out of the personal struggles in my life. After countless attempts to cope with and understand those struggles, I found that poetry was the only way I could make sense of and ultimately rise above them. I heard many similar stories from others about their inner turmoil and suffering. But when we shared poetry, we felt a deeper sense of kinship on a more soulful level.
For me, poetry is a profound expression of the soul and reflective of my philosophy about life, poetry and writing in general. The title Arise and Shine: Laments of the Darkness, Songs of the Light expresses my belief that most of us can transcend our personal struggles and how we may conquer our greatest fears. This book illuminates the duality and illusions of opposites ..the dark and ..the light.
Arise and Shine: Laments of the Darkness, Songs of the Light is a visual journey through poems that range from Solitary Tears
to Transfiguration
and every transformative experience along the path to the formation of a personal presence through the power of one’s voice. The purpose of writing it was to provide both enjoyment and inspiration to those who have or will encounter challenges as well as those who have overcome them. For those of us who have wrestled their inner demons and triumphed in the end, I believe you might relate to the losses and overcoming them that are contained herein. I also trust that this collection of poems can provide guidance and hope to those still struggling to find their unique voice.
As a licensed psychotherapist for over 25 years, I’ve witnessed firsthand a myriad of broken relationships, depression, addiction and the correlating sorrow involved for all concerned. I, too, struggled with my own issues with depression and serious physical challenges as well as lost love and deep sorrow. Though over the years, I have facilitated positive outcomes for people in crisis,
