About this ebook
If he wasn't getting dragged into yet another argument between his neighbors, Andy and Gert, Beau Farneuff could enjoy Sunday football. Though, it isn't long before Beau suspects he'll no longer have to worry about it, when Gert suddenly disappears. The story her husband tells is less than believable. But before Beau will be able to enjoy another game, he and his wife Nora must find out for sure.

For example, my husband is still alive and well (for the most part).

A lot of screaming and glass breaking was coming from the house next door. Not a big surprise. Andy and Gert Simmons were going at it again. Happened every football season. They'd be down another set of dishes by spring. Again.
Beau Farneuff waited impatiently for Lily, his wife Nora's Pomeranian, to finish her business so that he could slink back inside the house to watch the game and pretend he hadn't heard a thing. If she didn't find a spot to squat soon, no doubt Andy would be out in the backyard, looking over the fence for a sympathetic ear. Beau wasn't in the mood. The Pats were ahead and he wanted (prayed) they would win this one. He had fifty bucks riding on it with Tad from accounting.
Just as Lily's ass end went down, the Simmons back door flew open.
Go fuck yourself!
Andy screamed, slamming the door. Oh, hey, Beau.
God damn dog,
Beau muttered. Hey, Andy.
He left out the how's it going
, still hoping to avoid the inevitable.
Bitch can't just let me watch the game,
Andy said, as if Beau had asked anyway.
Twenty-five years of living on Eden Street next door to the Simmons and Beau was sure Andy had never actually watched an entire game. Not to mention it had cost Beau a pleasant Sunday or two every season. Days like these he was especially grateful for Nora, who used football Sundays to go Christmas shopping. Sure it was early, and half the time she came home empty handed, but she gave him space.
That sucks,
Beau said. Come on, Lil. Hurry it up.
"I wish she'd go shopping on Sunday, Andy continued.
Crazy bitch."
There was more glass breaking from inside their house. Andy turned to flip the bird to the back door.
Yeah, I here ya.
Beau nodded. The damn dog was taking forever. Was she constipated?
Andy walked over to the unfinished picket fence between their yards. He stood a foot and an half over their five foot divider. He was a thin man, but a tall man.
Do you ever get the urge?
he whispered.
Beau stared at him, confused. To what?
Run like hell when you come out the back door?
You know.
Using his forefinger, Andy ran it across his throat in a slicing motion. Beau wasn't sure if Andy meant kill himself or his wife. In either case the answer was still the same.
No,
Beau said. Can't say that I do.
Some days I'd like to...
Andy held his hands out in front of him, intertwined, choking an invisible Gert.
Aw, she's just being a nag.
Beau didn't want any part of this conversation. She'll get over it. She always does.
Yeah, but I won't.
Andy's arms flopped down by his sides, ricocheting off his hips. Christ, I feel like I can't breath around that woman half the time. She's never fucking happy. Did you see the new car I bought her?
Of course Beau had seen it. A shiny red Lexus fresh from the factory.
I mean, really,
Andy went
