About this ebook

Eighteen-year old Keira Wilde has finished school and is determined to make her own plans for her future, thank you very much. She wants to be a photographer; not go to Oxford, like her parents want, or be a hero, like her aunt wants. But Keira’s plans go flying out of the window when she is attacked on the streets of London and she is forced to use her powers in self-defense.

Unfortunately, her actions attract the attention of a predator intent on using her...or destroying her. Preferring to be neither used nor destroyed, Keira takes charge of her destiny and enters the hidden world of the Guardians of the Akasha.

Fighting side by side with the battle-scarred Marco Santana, they race from London to Argentina and a castle in the forests of the Czech Republic to find the source of all knowledge and prevent the fabric of time from unraveling.

When I was approached with a request to read Guardians of the Akasha, my initial reaction was to say no (I already have such a long TBR list for reviews) but after downloading and reading a sample from Amazon, I decided to go for it.

Guardians of Akasha is the debut novel of Celia Stander and introduces us to the concept of the Akasha. I don’t quite get the Akasha but it something like an invisible dimension that holds nature together and bestows some special powers to certain people (aka the guardians).

I found the main character, Keira, refreshing. She is not the whiny, low self-esteem, needs-a-man-to-survive type of some books I’ve read lately. Yes, there is some mild romance in the story but Keira’s story is not dependent on it.

One of my complaints is that the novel seemed a little too compressed at times. I found that in many areas the author just rushed forward with her writing rather than provide full descriptions of settings, background knowledge, or deeply explore a character’s actions. I think if she had taken her time and gone back through to fill holes or provide deeper explanations this novel could have been a 4 out of 5. But….this is her first novel and I am sure the next one will be even better.
