About this ebook

SET YOUR FAITH ON FIRE!

Most Christians wonder why they don’t see greater results from their prayers. They know that it is important to have faith and try their best to believe, but still they get meager results compared to the early church. Could it be that there are forces arrayed against them to keep them from true and genuine faith? Is it possible that their faith is as unstable as the waves of the sea?

In Faith on Fire, Ben R. Peters addresses these questions and identifies the structures of unbelief that may be keeping you in fear, doubt and insecurity. These structures can exist not only in our individual souls but they can also be built into the culture of a nation, people group, denomination, movement or local church group.

If the enemy has robbed you of your faith through fear, lies and false securities, you don’t have to put up with it anymore. In this book, you will learn:

* The importance of defeating the enemies of faith
* How to identify some of the strongest and most common structures of unbelief
* How to destroy and eliminate these structures of unbelief that war against your faith
* How to replace them with structures of faith
* How to live in the simplicity of faith

These biblical truths will not only change your personal life for the better but will also help you to bless, increase and prosper the Kingdom of God. With faith you can move the mountains in your world.

The Importance of Defeating the Enemies of Faith

IN MY FIRST year of Bible College, God gave me an insatiable passion to see the blood-bought church of Jesus Christ restored to her original power and glory, as recorded in the early chapters of the book of Acts. I couldn’t get enough of that amazing and exciting bit of history. On my knees, in a little piano practice room at Canadian Bible College, I would read the first half of Acts one day and the second half the next. This went on week after week and month after month, often with tears streaming down my face, crying out to God to do it again.

It was just a few years later that a wonderful revival came to our city, Regina, Saskatchewan. It touched thousands with a hunger to walk with God in purity and integrity. There was a reviving of the apathetic church and it was a season of great glory. At the same time, it was not all that my heart had cried out for. I wanted to see the raw power of the jaw-dropping miracles that my heart was crying out for. I had read and heard about them, but I had never really seen them.

But shortly after that Canadian revival had somewhat simmered down, I was invited to accompany an older, seasoned evangelist on his first trip to Argentina. This journey, in the fall of 1973, was the greatest answer that I have ever received to all those prayers. The miracles, signs and wonders were off the charts! Neither Elmer Burnette, the evangelist, Jack Schissler, our host missionary, nor myself had ever seen anything like it!

The most glorious thing about it was that God’s presence was so real to everyone from the start of worship until we all went home. People flocked to the front to receive the salvation and healing that Jesus had bought for them. Miraculously, cancer, club feet, crippling arthritis, total deafness (three young men born with no hearing), and many other physical conditions were healed. The result was that the people wanted to know this Jesus who had done all these incredible things. It was very much like the book of Acts, and at least one thousand souls came into the Kingdom of Heaven during the six weeks that we were there. As a confirmation, five new churches rose up, and we were told that after one year only one of them had less than two hundred members. I know that the miracles and conversions in the early church were greater in number, but this was the closest I have been to that kind of power.

Throughout my life, I have been blessed to see many miracles. Some have happened when I prayed, but most of them came when I joined with or witnessed others praying. I have witnessed miracles when Heidi Baker, James Maloney, Bill Johnson, Shawn Bolz, David Herzog, Jeff Jansen, David Tomberlin and others with great healing ministries prayed for the sick. However, I have never been convinced that what I’ve personally seen can compare with what was witnessed by the first Apostles in the wonderful book of Acts.

The book of Acts is about a small, but passionate group of followers, led by the apostles who had been empowered by Jesus, and under the direct guidance of the Holy Spirit, produced many miraculous manifestations of the power of the Living God, and changed the face of the world while demonstrating outrageous, agape love.

What was the source of their incredibly fruitful ministry? From many passages of Scripture, I believe it is very clear that the secret to their phenomenal success was a very strong, mature faith, which was anchored and rooted in their passionate love for Jesus and His Kingdom.

Today, decades later, I maintain the long-held conviction that the coming outpouring of God’s Spirit will be even more glorious than what we read about in the book of Acts. For that to happen, we must also develop the same mature faith, rooted and grounded in passionate love for Jesus. In that youthful season of my life, God gave me a simple, yet profound, revelation regarding faith and how it grows and produces exceptional results. By the end of my seminary days, based on the simple truth God had revealed to me in the beginning of my second year of college, I was writing my Master’s Thesis on the subject of faith. In spite of all the prolific literature (current and ancient), along with so much preaching and teaching on the subject of faith, I have very seldom read or heard this simple truth proclaimed.

I will certainly share at least a portion of this revelation in later chapters, but my primary focus throughout this book will be on the particular aspect of faith that I have been guilty of neglecting. Quite frankly, I failed to understand its importance. This aspect of faith that I had overlooked is not how we build our faith, but rather it is the understanding of how to deal with and defeat the many enemies of the powerful, miracle-working faith that we so desire.

In other words, I want to both learn and then teach how to destroy and eliminate the structures of unbelief that war against our faith. When we have learned how to recognize and tear down these negative structures, we will make much greater progress in building those positive structures of faith, so we can all move the mountains that stand in the way of fulfilling the great commission and expanding the Kingdom of Heaven on the earth.

In the first few chapters of this book, we will expose some of the strongest and most common structures of unbelief. In later chapters, we will discover some keys to tear down these structures and replace them with structures of faith. It is my sincere prayer that these
