Teaching Art History The fun Way ~ It's a Scream is a handbook for teaching art history using games, food, music, and clothing as memory aids and interest catchers. Chronologically, from pre-historic to modern times, historical highlights are dovetailed with studio work. For instance, the Renaissance unit focuses on techniques of perspective. Sample handouts and assignments are provided. Material is suited to high school students.
Dr. Jane Coryell taught art for 15 years (half her teaching career) in 3 high schools in / near Oakville Ontario. HerPhD (1995) is in Art Education (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto). She practised an interactive style of teaching which gave students independence in subject matter and treatment, as their technical skills expanded.
