    Introduction

Hi there and welcome to the Euro Destinations Guide from Backpacker Europe. My name is Daniel Hardie, author of this guide and the detailed eBook - Backpacker Europe - The Essential Guide for all backpackers.

So you’ve decided to take the leap and explore the unknown… First of all well done! I truly believe that everybody needs to get out there in the world to see the sights, experiences & discover different cultures, not to mention meeting other people along the way.

I was in the exact same boat as you not so long ago. I was excited, nervous and very anxious. I had never travelled solo anywhere before and this time I was going with just a one way ticket, half way across the world. I was overwhelmed by everything that I had to organise before I left, which just added to the intensity of my anxieties.

Fortunately I had a lot of friends who had travelled and backpacked Europe before me and I was able to get the advice and information that I needed to at least start. We all had very different experiences and travelled to different parts of Europe and no doubt your trip will be as unique as the next.

I was in the same boat as you, so I completely understand how you’re feeling. It is a big decision and a life changing experience. This experience however is very rewarding and you will have memories that will last a life time.

This Destination Guide is a chunk out of the full Backpacker Europe – Essential Guide for Backpackers, and therefore if you’re serious about backpacking Europe then I suggest getting the full version. This eBook only relates to the destinations throughout Europe to give you some insight about travelling throughout Europe.

From this full guide you will learn many different things including visa information, bank accounts, working overseas, preparations, group tours vs independent travel, where to stay, how to get around, the destination guides and much more. When it comes to backpacking, the more information you can find out before you depart the better.

    Main Attractions

    Skiing in the Alps

Austria brings in skiers and snowboarders from all parts of the world to experience these beautiful slopes.

Most tourists visit Salzburg for skiing as it is quite easy to pick up transfers from the airport to the ski resorts but other areas around Austria include Tyrol, Vorarlberg and the less touristy areas which are located in Carinthia and Styria.

The ski season typically starts early December until late March. However if you are planning on going to Salzburg or Tyrol I would suggest booking in early.

    Murauer Brewery

If you can try get out to the town of Styria, not only is it fantastic for skiing but also has the Murauer Brewery tours.

Here you will get to learn about making & of course tasting of the famous Austrian beer.

    Ice Caves

Caving is a popular extreme sport all around the world, but here in Austria it’s a whole different experience all together.

Just south of Salzburg and buried deep beneath the mountain wall, in Werfen lies this famous ice cave, Eisriesenwelt.

    Vienna

Vienna is a diverse mix of old traditional values mixed with a modern day twist. The streets are lined with cafes and exquisite restaurants influenced by many nations.

Nicknamed the musical city, Vienna has made a historical significance to classical music. Vienna boasts about its major influential musicians including Mozart and Beethoven, but this isn’t the only nickname.

Vienna is sometimes also referred to as the ‘City of Dreams’ due to being the home of the world’s vey first physco-analyst, Sigmund Freud.

The climate in Vienna has fairly moderate temperature which is quite surprising seeing as it virtually an extension of the Alps. The summer months are generally between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius where as winter is usually around the 15 degrees Celsius mark.

This moderate temperature makes it a great place to visit for those who like their weather not too hot and not too cold.
