For my own personal fabulous friend who made me laugh, usually when I wanted to least. We are not as young as we once were but we are not so old as to forget our dreams. I am still waiting on the day you find a guy as awesome as you are!

Ronnie floated to awareness as the upbeat strains of It's raining men continued to interrupt what did not feel like nearly enough sleep. He confirmed this by lifting the fuzzy hot pink sleep mask that proudly proclaimed the word bitch across the front from his eyes long enough to see that it was still dark. He groaned and when his phone stopped ringing, he had no trouble snuggling back into the luscious cherry red satin of his bed and dozing back off.

He had just snuggled back in and was curled back around Lonnie's sleek form when his phone started up again. He sat up and groped around on the night stand until he found the shape of his blackberry and lifted it to try and look at the display. All he got was a bright blur that had him blinking and reminding himself that he had to stop sleeping in his contact lens. He pushed the green button and put the phone to his ear.

Ronnie, honey, are you there? It's me, Aunt Fay.

Ronnie sat up straighter and pulled the sleep mask from his head. He wiped his eyes and answered, Aunt Fay? Is everything ok? It's awful late or maybe early, is everyone ok?

Ronnie, the family is fine, but I need you to come home. She sounded tired and her voice was rough as if she had spent a great deal of time crying. He pushed out of bed and headed to the hall where he could talk without waking his lover.

Aunt Fay, I can't just come home anytime I want. I have a job and bills, a life. I might come for Christmas but I can't right now. He frowned at his reflection in the hall mirror. His eyes were puffy and smeared with the remains of mascara from last night. His face was flushed and he had a hickey and what looked like lipstick on his neck. He turned his attention back into his Aunt quickly when a single sentence stood out from whatever reason she was giving to try and convince him to come home.

Wait a minute Aunt Fay. Did you just say Alex was dead? My Alex? He slid down the wall of the hall and sprawled across the patterned runner. He suddenly felt deflated.

"Yeah Ronnie, I said dead, your Alex. He died two weeks ago. I would have called sooner but I honestly thought you knew. The police are ruling it a B & E gone wrong but I am not so sure. His mom is devastated. We need you Ronnie, something is going on and I have a feeling you are going to be the only one who can get to the bottom of this."

Ronnie closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the cool texture of the wall. He nodded then remembered that she couldn't see his head movement and he whispered a single word before hanging up, Ok.

Alex wasn't technically his anymore and Ronnie was never sure if he ever had been. They had grown up together and experimented together. But Ronnie had moved away and made a life in Vegas and Alex had stayed home and went to community college. They had drifted apart and even lost touch. Ronnie couldn't honestly say when the last time they had spoken was. But now after hearing the news; all he could think was his Alex was gone.

He sat sprawled in his hallway trying desperately not to cry. He had gone home a few times over the last few years. Each time he told himself that he was never going to bother again. He stayed with Aunt Fay and dutifully visited his family. He would lie low and left quickly; each time managing to miss or maybe avoid Alex. He had picked up the phone a million and one times but somehow they had never reconnected and now t was too late.

He sat there for awhile before heading back into his bedroom where the light from the rising sun was just starting to spill into his window. He had put up with how inconvenient it was to live so close to the edge of Vegas just to avoid all the neon and other lights. It was darker and quieter here; besides, he was a working man and it was way cheaper to live n the outskirts of town than uptown. But now he hated his choice as he remembered how hard it was to get a house sitter willing to come out this far to stay. He pulled his sheets down and slapped Lonnie's firm behind as it slid into view.

Baby, you need to head out. Ronnie has to look fabulous so I can go get some shit done. He turned on the lamp by the bed and looked back in time to see Lonnie slide
