Don’t be silly.
Honestly! I saw it!
You are being silly.
Look, you don’t call your master silly, you hear?
"If my master is silly, then I certainly do."
You can’t! We agreed this time I was going to be the master. You were supposed to accept everything I said.
"There was no such agreement. I said I was going to let you be the master if you didn’t make up silly things. Saying you saw a dragon is a pretty silly thing."
But I did! It came out of that steaming hole.
"That hole is a seismic fissure, and what you must’ve seen was a rock shot by the pressure of underground gas. It’s better if you just stick with that and don’t come up with stories, all right? If dad suspects we stepped near the seismic fissures I’m the one who’s going to hear it."
It’s not a story. Look, I know everyone thinks they got extinct a long time ago, and all that, but…
"Extinct? Now you’re being really silly. As if dragons ever existed."
Look, if you don’t want to believe, don’t. I’m pretty sure of what I saw. It was a dragon and that’s final.
Is that so? And, by any chance, do you have some kind of proof? Do you have—let’s say—a hologram to show me?
You know I don’t. Dad never lets us bring technology to the Reservation. Only he can. You know that perfectly well.
Fair enough. Can you, at least, describe it do me?
"Look, it might yet not be really really a dragon."
Of course.
"Oh, come on. I’m not making this up. It just didn’t happen to be an already born dragon, you see?"
Sure, quite clearly. Look!
What?
"Up there, in the sky! There it is one, with its wings wide spread, staring at us and breathing fire! Oh, wait… no, just the Sun behind a cloud."
Stupid. You’re the one who’s silly!
Atly left angry with his brother. If Lantis didn’t want to believe he saw a dragon it was his problem. Even if it was just an egg surely there was a baby dragon inside. Dad wasn’t going to believe either. He was just like Lantis. For them, everything had to make some sort of rational sense; otherwise it was a plain and simple impossibility. But Atly was sure of what he saw.
Lantis watched is younger brother leave. He was willing
