    A Few Essentials

The search for becoming a better individual is something I am proud of and embrace. I continuously aspire to become a more refined person so that I may help others empower themselves, enhance their lives, and improve their well being.

The link between self-esteem and what you experience is very important. Our self-esteem is the foundation of our personal philosophy, so it is vital to understand how it works and how it affects us. This often gets overlooked like a penny on the sidewalk.

Overlook enough pennies and you pass up a fortune.

The tendency to see others around us, the things they have, or their accomplishments, skews our own perspectives. Like many out there reading this, I found myself at a point where my self-esteem was trashed. Ripped to shreds, actually.

Not exactly the easiest thing to admit, or write in a book, but I had a very poor impression of myself, my worth, and who I was, all based on what was happening around me. I was lacking the energy, motivation, and resources needed to live a fulfilled life.

Rather than put you to sleep with those boring details, what I set out to do was turn it all around. I decided that I would make the proper corrections, starting with how I felt about myself. I became fascinated with learning about the human mind, our emotions, how we process feelings, cognitive behavior, how I could improve my situation, and what I could do to develop into a more complete person.

I had to understand how I behaved the way I did first, so I could learn how to fix it.

Now, most of the material I found read like a Japanese version of an airplane instruction manual, and my Japanese is pretty rusty (which is just another way of saying I’ve yet to learn Japanese).

Needless to say, it was a very long and rocky road filled with jargon and terminology that was difficult for me to relate to at first. But along the way, something happened. It all started to come together and make sense to me. I began picking up and retaining the information in a more practical way.

I spent countless hours and what little dollars I had hitting the books and learning everything I could, and in doing so I found that my personal philosophy had changed.

I had a new belief structure. The more knowledge I sought out and gained, the better I started to feel and the more I began to notice my world transform around me. It was in those moments of clarity when I felt I was truly awake.

Soon, I chose to start helping others with the same problem, then moved on to write my own easy to understand, no-bullshit take on it all. A way for people like me to have a better understanding of what self-esteem is, where it comes from, and how it relates to the development of self-confidence and achievement. I knew that if I could put together a resource that would come across the right person at the right time, then I would fulfill a great purpose.

Let’s face it, they don’t teach Self-Esteem 101 in school. Introduction to Being Happy with Yourself is not a subject taught in college, and definitely not provided as a continued learning course in the workplace.

It’s talked about and something that we all search for, but it’s not taught to us. The best thing we can do is start the process of understanding its importance by reading the books, learning the information,
