Exposure of a Poet - Simply Poetic
My deepest gratitude goes first to Jesus Christ, the Lover that loved me before I even loved myself. I am forever in debt with you and words just simply aren’t enough to express my gratefulness.
To my son Jorden, I love you with every part of me. One day you will realize how you entering into the world have saved my life. I will spend every day reminding you that you are loved and that I will always be there for you whenever you call.
To my mom (Nana), I have used poems to keep me sane and also with the help of your prayers I’ve been able to keep my composure and stay strong through the toughest times of my life. I am blessed to have a mother like you.
To my brother Terry, even though the eight year difference between us made it hard to get along, you were more like a father figure to me more than a brother. I am proud of the man you have become.
To my best friend Chardae, everyone knows we are a light skin/brown skin version of each other. Whenever I need some advice or to reconfirm a decision I’m considering making, you are the first person I call because you always give me the honest truth. You know me better than anyone. Our loyalty and years of friendship can never be broken. I was once a role model for you, now the tables have turn. Your experience has outgrown my wisdom.
To my father, over these last couple of years we have been able to develop a relationship that I craved and longed for as a child. I am happy that God released you back to me and my siblings and I encourage you to stay humble.
To my business partner Wali, you believed in me the most and pushed me the hardest. Thank you for allowing my artistry became more than just a hobby.
To all the family, friends, ex-friends, and associates that pushed me to stay on top of my poetry, which inspired me to write and motivated me to do great things…. Two words Thank you!

Introduction
Thank you for taking the time out and reading this book. I present to you some of the poems that were written these last six years. Most of them are written through personal experience, but some of them are written by the request of others or out of just plain boredom.
I always had a love for poetry, but I struggled making it myself until I reached the age of 17. My senior year of high school at Beechcroft High located in Columbus, Ohio my English teacher gave my fellow peers and I a senior project which included creating an original poem. My heart dropped because I knew that poetry and rhyming wasn’t something I was good at. So I decided to use something personal; my hurt towards my father. I expressed how the decisions he made in my early years took a hard toll on me and my siblings and because of those decisions I grew hatred and bitterness towards him. The poem I presented for my senior project was called Abandoned
which is the first poem of this book, the poem that started it all. After I received an A
for the project, I found a new way to deal with my hurt other than doing what female teenagers do; drink, smoke, have boyfriends,
and go to parties.
Growing up inside a strict Christian home, I struggled with accepting my church family as Family
and from time to time I rejected the wisdom of the word because I felt my religion was forced upon me. The adults of my family expected my generation to accept the role of being a Christian and to make sure we were living a life of purity and faithfulness just because we learned about God’s love at a young age. In reality they weren’t preparing us for the world and didn’t speak to us about life’s struggles in our age realm. Because of that, we get eaten by the world as we go out and try to create our own mistakes to learn from instead of just taking one’s word. With being a product of a single mother who worked two jobs (sometimes three) and a father who I hadn’t seen outside
