About this ebook

What is an angel to do when his decision to spare a demon could bring down Heaven's punishment? For the first time ever, the guardian angel Nissan’s life revolves around more than fighting hellspawn and being reviled for his yellowed plumage. Now the reason behind his ill-favored appearance may be his only hope of surviving judgment for claiming power he can’t possibly have—the ability to see into a soul and perceive its innocence. In order to face Heaven, he must first escape Hell.

Sarah Gilman

Sarah started her first novel in the third grade. She never finished that story, but never gave up the dream. Her fascination with wings also began at that age, when images of the ancient Egyptian goddess Isis captured her imagination and never let go. Now a paranormal romance writer, she employs her love of writing to bring the allure of winged creatures to the pages of her novels. Sarah lives in Vermont with her supportive husband and two spoiled cats. She is the prolific author of: Out in Blue, out now in trade paperback, coming January, 2013 in mass market Deep in Crimson, to be released in September, 2013 Wings of Redemption, a Return to Sanctuary novella, to be released in October, 2012.

To all who see our differences as our strengths.

Covered with dirt and blood from the day’s battle, Nissan paced the sidewalk and considered letting the nearby devil live.

Tourists shuffled in and out of the surrounding high-end restaurants and independently-owned shops, oblivious to the demons that swarmed the New England village and the equally invisible angels who forced the beasts into retreat.

A woman in a business suit, swearing into her cell phone, power-walked through Nissan. Though used to the strange, tingly sensation, he stretched his long wings, relieving the knots in his muscles left by the human’s passage.

Across the street, the one-foot tall, dark-red devil sat on the steps of a bank, bestowing bad luck on the patrons. Well, trying to. The low-power beast caused mischief at worst: a man stumbled here, a woman spilled her coffee there. Harmless in the grand scheme of things. Why did the wannabe-atrocity have to die?

Piss Wing, Lance, a silver-winged angel, shouted from his perch on a stop sign. You going to earn your keep or what?

Nissan shrugged and extended his middle finger, unashamed of the yellow-streaked white plumage that earned him his crude nickname.

Is this going to take all night, Piss Wing?

The end of the day wasn’t the time for a battle of wills. Hyperaware of his empty stomach, Nissan turned his back on the other angel and crossed the street.

Golden eyes wide, the pygmy devil backed away. As Nissan closed in, the beast straightened its spine and puffed out its chest. Its horns rose no higher than Nissan’s knees. The little creature grabbed a rock and threw it. The weapon struck Nissan’s shin with all the force of a flung rubber band.

Nissan shook his head. What an odd little creature. Most pygmy devils ran,
