RECLAIM YOUR INNOVATION MOJO!
We find ourselves in a very different time. The old world of business, what was once the status quo, has crumbled ushering in the Great Recession here in America and economic woes in Europe and other parts of the world. Companies of all sizes have disappeared and along with this the livelihood of thousands of individuals.
In my 2011 book Innovation in a Reinvented World: 10 Essential Elements to Succeed in the New World of Business (Wiley), I highlight the different ways that innovation has leveled the playing field through its creation of opportunities for individuals and businesses alike. But as the rules changed during this great economic disruption, many people were caught unprepared for the changing reality of innovation.
In the new world of business a direct correlation exists between your capacity to innovate and your career success. No longer will one hit wonders
pay and play for the long haul. Ongoing innovation must become part of your DNA.
As creative, sentient beings we have the capacity to change, engage and contribute so much more than what we do today. In the old world of business innovation was initiated by R&D labs and startups. In the new world of business everyone must contribute and commit to innovating and adding value in new ways.
The great news is that we are living in an innovation-friendly time. Emerging technologies, new product introductions, and process innovations introduced by micropreneurs, non-profits, small businesses, and multi-national corporations continue to address many of the world’s most pressing challenges. But in order to take advantage of these opportunities it requires innovation mojo. Here in Silicon Valley our culture of failing quickly and improving after each failed attempt encourages and rewards people to keep trying until they hit pay dirt
.
Living in uncertain times is just that—uncertain—which is why I put together these ten actions so that you can change your reality in 2013 and beyond. Choose to differentiate yourself from the fence sitters; change your approach, shift your perspective, and open up possibilities.
Seize your moment in history.
