Before following her passion to write full-time, Claire was an award-winning corporate communications manager. Earlier, she worked as a translator and a PA. Claire grew up in Warwickshire, England, but for more than 20 years has called Australia home. She considers herself lucky to live near one of Adelaide’s beautiful metropolitan beaches where she loves to walk and think up stories.

      I have to break up with Simon.

      What a horrible thought to wake up to. I feel sick. I roll over and peer at the clock. The morning’s half gone. By now, Simon will have scaled the nearest mountain and abseiled down the other side. Okay, there are no mountains in the city, but you get the picture. Simon’s the original Action Man.

      I should have broken up with him after the first date. Rubbish. I should never have gone to meet him for coffee that day. No, back up a step. I should never have sent the email.

      We met via an internet dating service. Not that I was a member, of course. No way. Before I met Simon, my weekends were spent curled up with a good book, and no regrets. My biggest thrill was a trip to the library. If the library gave loyalty reward points, I’d have squillions to spend. But I digress.

      My housemate, Ruth, joined this particular dating service. One day, she called me over to the computer to see the pictures and, I admit, we had a bit of a laugh. But when Simon’s photo came up, I lost my breath. I wouldn’t let Ruth change screens. It was his smile. I felt like he was smiling straight at me. Only at me. I went from uninterested to obsessed in an instant. I’d never known an attraction like it.
