PREFACE

I was stuck. I had studied for my doctoral degree but still I needed a miracle to complete it and that thesis. It was a stressful time. Working two jobs, and going to classes nights and weekends, was difficult when you have a wife, and two children.

And there was so much to study and learn. About 40,000 pages I needed to know and know it well. I began to look into ways to learn faster and remember more. There were a few methods, not very good ones, mostly philosophy about reading and learning. I had to do something better, more powerful, to help myself.

After looking at everything in the library and all the self-help companies selling videos and audios, I realized that this was something that I had do for myself. I had nightmares, then...

I BEGAN TO DREAM ABOUT FIRST LEARNING TO READ

When I first learned to read, as a child, I was taught the sounds of letters, then syllables and finally words. Then I read out loud to the class and my teacher, Mrs. Langbein. As I got older I began to read to myself, and soon I could read the words silently in my head. But that created a habit that’s called subvocalizing. It’s much slower than reading without talking to yourself. Because a person can only speak at about 250 words per minute, or, if from down south -- slower. I was limited in my reading speed. So, first I created a easy method to the stop that inner voice from reading to me.

Then I learned to control how my eyes moved when I read. Then I coordinated my hand and eyes together. Finally I trained my brain to remember and recall (an easy process) and I was a speed reader. This book is the condensed version of my learning method, which I later taught for many years at colleges and Universities in the US. It worked for me, and it works everyday for thousands of people
