    Introduction

    This free-verse poem is an attempt to capture, in however small a measure, the wonderful experiences I had upon the schooner Brilliant from June 20 to June 24, 2011, with the eleven new friends I met there. It was done from my own want as well as a personal need to share this experience with others, and those who have made this voyage possible for me.

    I gain my inspiration from the sea, of course, as well as from my Catholic faith throughout the poem. Both, I hope, the work will resonate with readers of all experience, be it on land or sea, or faiths Christian or not. At some points, I try, and miserably but merrily fail, to follow in the footsteps of that great pilgrim Dante, with whom I climbed to the shining peak of the Empyrean right on the Brilliant (having finally
