About this ebook

In Heavenly Realms: Sermons from the Book of Ephesians is a series of sermons I gave in my tenure as Lead Pastor in one of the local churches in my city. I had compiled these sermons primarily to give ideas to pastors and ministers as they prepare for their Sunday talks.

These sermons are in outline form also to give the busy pastor a ready sermon during those times when he/she wasn't able to prepare one. While I took pains to make sure these sermons are exegetically, they may also challenge the serious student of the Bible.

In any case, it is hoped that these sermons would be a blessing to both deliverer and hearer. Needless to say, these sermons may also be used as Bible study outlines.

I'm a retired pastor now concentrating on what I love best: writing. I graduated from Journalism and took special classes on Christian ministry. I live alone with one cat who believes I'm the pet and not her. My wife, Alma, passed away in 2010. I have one daughter who lives not too far from with two children and a doting husband. I certainly would want to get to know my readers and fellow authors. Please write to me.

    DEDICATION

To all the members of my church, the Banilad Alliance Church, for the privilege of serving you.

    PREFACE

This book is not an attempt at a scholarly commentary of the Book of Ephesians.

It is a compilation of sermon outlines that are inter-independent of each other. They are meant to be a resource of ideas for pastors and other ministers who preach and teach.

It is my fervent hope that these resources will be a blessing to all who share in them.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This humble contribution to Christianity would not have been possible without the unswerving support of Banilad Alliance Church’s elders and their wives: Ryan and Joanne Rivera and Alex and Venus Pacquiao.

Profound thanks also to Jim and Doris Colmenares, Gerry and Glynis Zapata, and, last but certainly not the least, my mentors Drs. Ceferino and Lina Villegas.

    1 God's Pre-determination

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus... -Ephesians 1:1

    Introduction

    a) beginning today we will be studying the Book of Ephesians

    b) this will culminate in the verse that expresses our theme this year: Speaking Life in Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs

    c) Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, -Ephesians 5:19

    d) as what I had shared with you last Sunday, we should speak a life of Victory, Worship and Joy

    e) hopefully as we go through the Book of Ephesians, we will learn how to live a life of victory, worship and joy; that we may speak life to others through the life we live

    f) so let’s begin

    g) in verse 1 we see what I call God's predetermination; God is a God of determination; in other words, God moves with determination

    h) concerning you and I, even before we were born, God had already predetermined what he desired for us:

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love. -Ephesians 1:4

...Who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time... -2 Timothy 1:9

    i) so allow me to share with you 4 aspects that we see in verse 1 about God's predetermination

    1. Purpose in his predetermination

    a) Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus

    b) here we see the purpose of the Lord in Paul; he was called to be an apostle

    c) we each have a purpose by God and this was predetermined by God even before we were born

    d) we certainly may not be called as apostles, but God has a purpose for us

    e) and we need to find that purpose so we may fit in the whole structure of the kingdom of God

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. -Ephesians 4:11-13

    f) so you need to know God's purpose for you and understand God's purpose for your brother and sister in Christ

    2. Plan in his predetermination

    a) by the will of God

    b) if God has a purpose, he certainly has a plan

    c) and his plan is all-encompassing; not one tiny detail is left out

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will... -Ephesians 1:11

    d) and his plan is also for the individual - In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. -Proverbs 16:9

    e) God has a plan for this body of believers; and God has a plan for each of us so we can fall into his plan for us as his body

    f) he has a plan for you individually, he has a plan for your family and he has a plan for this church where he has called you to belong in

    g) thus, in seeking the Lord, we must also seek how God can bring us to his plan for his kingdom

...And has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father--to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. -Revelation 1:6

    3. Place in his predetermination

    a) To the saints in Ephesus

    b) Paul mentioned a specific place

From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set
