About this ebook

Sixteen-year-old Stephanie Beasley has it all. She's a top student, head cheerleader, popular, with a great boyfriend. But she also has It.

It stands in the corner of her bedroom in the dark of night, watching, waiting. Always waiting. Until it follows her out of her room for the first time ever, bringing her terror to a new level.

Soon, Steph is losing sleep, unable to function, stressed about when it will make its move. And when it does, she'll be forced to do anything she must to protect those she loves.

Cindy C Bennett

Cindy C Bennett has been writing her whole life, but she fell in love with young adult novels after her teenage daughters introduced her to the genre. Her first two novels, Heart on a Chain and Geek Girl, were written for her daughters, who then encouraged her to publish them. Today, she has eight published novels to her name, including the Whitney Award–nominated young adult romance The End of Feeling. The mother of four grown children and two grandchildren, she enjoys writing, hanging out at the Salt Lake Comic Con, and riding her Harley all over Utah, where she was born and raised.

    It was back.

Standing in the corner. Silent except for the sound of its heavy breathing. Not moving. Simply watching.

Terror trilled down her spine from the base of her skull. Why now? It had been gone for over a year. Why was it back? Had she done something to cause its return? She’d been good, hadn’t she? She got good grades, not perfect, but close. She was head cheerleader, she was on the debate team, and she was well liked by everyone. She was a friend to all. She always helped her mom out around the house, never broke curfew. Wasn’t that enough?

Sweat beaded along her hairline and at her nape. She slowly, minutely, curled herself into a ball, pulling the covers up to just beneath her nose. Keeping her eyes on the thing was imperative, that much she knew. If she looked away for even a second, she would belong to it. She knew the distance from her bed to the bathroom. She could leap the distance in a few short seconds and slam the door behind her, locking herself in. A few seconds was too long. The bathroom door was next to where it stood at the entrance to her room in the small alcove created by the slightly extended wall. She would never make it.

Its green eye glowed. Every few minutes it flickered for a nanosecond as if it blinked. She shivered, minimizing the motion with great effort. Her muscles ached as she held her position. She wasn’t sure if it could see her or not. She only knew that she must remain as still as possible so as to not attract unwanted attention.

She prayed for her mom to come to her room, even as she prayed equally hard that she wouldn’t. It didn’t matter. Her mom rarely came into her room once she was in bed. She was seventeen, after all, and hardly needed to be checked on. Screaming was out of the question. If she screamed
