About this ebook
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).
There has been a cosmic battle fought over you ever since you were born. The participants in this war are God and the devil. The person in the middle of this battle is you. You have experienced the evidence of this fact throughout your personal history. Redeeming Your Past and Finding Your Promised Land will make clear the schemes against you and how to find answers that will set you free.
Over many years of personal ministry, Dr. Self discovered that most people were living far beneath their created potential. This book explores the reasons why and gives many practical solutions to living the blessed life you are created for.
God does everything with a plan and a purpose. You are born as a part of God's plan and purpose. God has a specific design for you and specific plans for you. Satan does not oppose God directly, he opposes God indirectly by attacking the plans and purposes of God for His people. Even before you were born the Bible tells us you were set apart for a purpose. Satan has been trying to keep you from that purpose through many devious methods. This book will help you overcome the various issues, trials, and traps of your past in order to move freely into your personal promised land where you can truly prosper.
The Bible says we should not be unaware of what the devil is doing. “So that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes” ( 2 Corinthians 2:11). In this book Dr. Ray Self explains the various plans, methods, and schemes of the enemy to distract and destroy the purpose for which you were created. You will learn how to become aware of the various schemes against you and how to overcome them. Even if you feel you are very far from the correct path, this book will help you get back on track.
There is a promised land for every one of God's children's. Only in this promised land will you ultimately prosper and find peace and contentment. Until you find this promised land your success will be limited, at best, and much frustration can be expected.
In Redeeming Your Past and Finding Your Promised Land Dr. Self discusses the things that stop us from God's best. This book will cover how to know what scheme the enemy is operating against you, how to discover your personal gifting, how to get back on the road that God has planned for you, and much more. Dr. Self discusses how to enter into your promised land by discussing four stages to prosper in your new place. This is an exciting and life-changing book that will help you fine-tune your life to God's design. Finally, you will learn many practical methods to finding and living in the great promises that God has for your life.

Introduction
Redeeming your past and finding your promised land is a subject that has been in my heart for many years. I have lived 61 years at the point of writing this book. I have studied and meditated on the various issues that have plagued me as well as others and have caused obstacles to peace fulfillment and success. I discovered there are a lot of issues that still hinder lives and purpose that remain buried within most people. To simply ignore them or deny them is not very wise and is definitely not the way of the Lord
Redeeming your past is about finding the truth from your past and resolving the issues that remain as stumbling blocks for your present as well as your future. I know some of you may say why go back and dig up the past? The answer is very obvious. Our past is still impacting our present and helping to determine our future. To ignore the issues, lessons, and messages of the past is equivalent to ignoring life itself. Our memories contain treasures as well as pain. Our memories contain information, knowledge, and wisdom. Apostle Paul wrote that renewing our mind would transform us. The renewing of our mind always has to do with our past because our mind only contains memories of the past. Our mind has not yet been impacted by our future.
What I want to accomplish by this book is to teach the reader how to identify and overcome obstacles or problems that are still causing difficulty within his or her present-day life and, therefore, are hindering the reader from entering into that reader's own promised land. Satan has worked really hard to destroy us and keep us from God's purpose. Redeeming our past is about restoring God's purpose and hope.
I don't want this book to be a negative book, but rather an honest look at the damage done to us and to reveal ways to restore us to the beautiful image God designed for us. In the Book of Nehemiah is the story of the Prophet Nehemiah who was a captive as was the nation of Israel to the king of Babylonia. He asked for permission to return to Jerusalem to restore the walls of his beloved hometown. Because of his love and admiration for Nehemiah, the king allowed him to do exactly that, and even granted him special authority. When Nehemiah returned to Jerusalem his first order of business was to ride around the wall in the evening and examine all the damage that had been done. Then I said to them, 'You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates burned by fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a reproach'
(Neh 2:17). After that point Nehemiah was able to assemble teams and families to come together to rebuild the wall. Only after there had been a damage assessment could the wall be rebuilt. It is much the same with us today. In order to rebuild our lives to the image that God has planned for us there must be a damage assessment. By looking at the damage done we can determine a strategy and a method for restoring our lives and redeeming our past, therefore allowing us to move into our promised land without hindrances or obstacles.
Fear not, for you will not be ashamed; be not confounded, for you will not be put to shame; for you will forget the shame of your youth
(Isaiah 54:4-5).
The purpose of this book is to honestly teach you how to look at anything within your personal belief system or your personal emotional psyche that is hindering you from moving forward into what the Lord has for you. In this book we will discuss how to apply healing to yourself with the help of God and to any loved one who has been adversely affected by their past.
A basic premise of life is that until you are working toward your God created purpose you will not find true satisfaction or peace. Over your lifetime, there have been dark forces that have come against you to keep you from what God has purposed for you. They can simply be called schemes. Satan customizes these schemes just for you. This is a counter attack against the positive plans of God in your life. In this book we are going to explore truth. We are going to look at painful facts, and we are going to examine truths that can set you free.
Facing the negative forces in your life has only one purpose. The purpose is to deal with them and gain freedom to move into your purpose. As we examine truth, you will discover that truth alone will not make you free. It seems that it should, but if you do not add the other elements needed, truth will simply work to bring on condemnation. God can most assuredly heal instantaneously, but most often He heals through the growing processes, which requires a continual diet of truth, along with His grace, as well as time for all of it to take place.
There are so many issues to talk about within the human experience that it would take years and thousands and thousands of pages to cover all of them. Multitudes of books have been written to help people overcome obstacles. My perspective may be a little different as I guide you in looking through the perspective of the word of God and the revelation of the Holy Spirit.
Through my years of ministry the Lord would allow me to see His truth about so many of His people. I discovered that God's truth about an individual is usually much different than what that person is experiencing or living. I believe when the Bible says that God's plan for us is exceedingly more that we could think or imagine (Eph. 3:20).
I guess you could say I want to see every one of God's own children living up to the potential that God created within them. I believe that Satan has been working our entire lives to keep us from this plan. Satan doesn't attack God directly. He attacks God by hindering His plans for His people. Satan is not concerned about us as individuals, he is concerned about us living to our God-given potential and helping God complete His plans for His creation.
The reasons to examine your past are many, but perhaps the most important reason of all is to be able to complete the assignment God created you to do. You've heard it said many times that you are not an accident. You were created for a purpose. You were created for a specific destiny. You were created to do God's work. The world is in a perpetual search for satisfaction. It looks for satisfaction in many ways such as money, success, or appearance. We, as Christians, should understand that the only true satisfaction comes from God, knowing who we are, and doing what we were created to do.
The exciting thing about living to your potential is that it will amaze you. The capabilities God created within us are more that we could do on our own. God wants to get the glory and He does that is by using ordinary people in extraordinary ways. Christians have been given greater authority, power, and responsibility. However, Satan has been attacking Christians through lies and painful hurts and circumstances to keep us from walking in and living in that power and authority. He knows if all Christians lived up to their potential his reign on earth would come to a quick end.
Redeeming your past concerns searching and looking for doorways that have let Satan to have access and closing them and kicking his influence out. Redeeming your past is about honesty. It takes courage to be honest because we must let go of self-protection and self-justification.
Matthew Hagee said that integrity is transparency, and I agree. If we claim to be living in integrity and we cannot be transparent and honest about our selves and our past influences then we are not truly being honest. It is not easy to be transparent. It should be done in the right situation with safe people, but it must be done.
Throughout Scripture God has a principal of confession. We are saved through our confessions. ...For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation
(Romans 10:10). We are forgiven through our confessions. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
(1 John 1:9). We are healed through our confessions. "Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so
