Brian Montgomery
Born and bred in South Central Los Angeles, CA. Yes, what you've heard in the Rap songs is true. Some of us do make it out without the aid of sports or entertainment though. I taught Special Education for many years and now I am concentrating on my first love, writing. I am almost constantly writing, not to be discovered but because I cannot seem to stop. It truly can be a blessing and a curse.

Thank you for purchasing this collection of my poetry. I appreciate all sales of my work and I am grateful whenever anyone takes my words and ideas into their consciousness. Writing is how I make my meager living and the fact that you are now reading these words means that I can continue my passion. Again, thank you dear reader.
Now that the most important part is over, welcome to this decidedly odd piece. I initially attempted to make sense of this collection and arrange the poems in some way that might make some sort of sense.
It soon became clear that, like some poems themselves, trying to give clarity to the whole often defeats the purpose. Sometimes it’s the feeling that’s being conveyed that supersedes the organization. I doubt that many readers will read this collection from cover to cover
in a single sitting – in fact, I hope that you don’t! Read one, cleanse the palate and read another later.
At certain points, I will give background information on a specific poem. I will not attempt to explain or convince you that the poem is meaningful. In fact, some of them are quite simple and just fun. Others, however, can be deep and dark. Hopefully, my background information will prove beneficial.
When all is said and done, I hope to give you great experiences in small doses.

CAL W.
Calvin Welch sits in smelly socks and dirty clothes
Feeling his confidence well.
The next ticket is surely it
And Easy Street will be his block.
Calvin sits with sweaty hands and greedy eyes
Holding firmly his lucky removal penny.
His room completely strewn
With crumpled pretender tickets,
Empty wrappers and discarded bags.
Calvin sits as a luckless king,
His life engulfed by chance.
His chance proportional
To his quality of life.
His sensibilities at odds,
His odds senseless.
Calvin sits.
