    A guide to help you get started in WordPress. This guide will help you through the steps of setting up your own WordPress website. It covers the basics and has many illustrations.

    It was written with counsellors and therapists in mind but can be used by anybody.

    As a counsellor and a tutor, I found out that it can be very hard for counsellors who are just starting out online to find the right resources. WIth that in mind I wrote this guide to make the process a little easier. This is the reason that for this guide I have stuck to the basics. I did not want to inundate you with knowledge. Just what you need to get started.

    As this is about an older version of WordPress but still offers valuable information the book is now on sale. I have switched to workshops instead of books as I like to give personal advice to people.

I am trying to bridge that gap with my website and my book[s]. Because I remember how hard it was for me to start from scratch. Spending many hours looking for information on what to do and what not not do. Luckily for me I soon found out that I like doing this. That is not true for a lot of other counsellors and therapists. The reason I offer some help.In my spare time I love to travel, especially cultural travel. I am Dutch and live in the Netherlands. Yet I have always been fond of Great Britain and The United States. Furthermore I love to read [almost anything] and watch movies. As you can see I am a big dog lover as well. Currently I don't own a dog, but borrow one from friends often.

      My Story

      Before I start telling you about WordPress I want to tell you a little bit about myself. After my training as a counsellor and coach, I found my real passion in working as an online counsellor. After I finished my training in online work I was suddenly faced with the fact that I now had a very thorough training in the therapeutic side of my work but no clue on how to start a business.

      I started to look around to find a web designer. As I did not think I could ever make my own website. The prices really shocked me though. I finally found a web designer who was just starting out and offered a good price. The first version of my website was built in Joomla, a progam a little like WordPress. But with two big differences, it was much harder to work in and did not have a built in blog. So after a few months I was not completely happy with my new website any longer.

      By now I had started to look around. I noticed that I liked figuring things out for myself. The last couple of years I have invested many hours in learning how things work online. I was introduced to WordPress and I loved the way this program works.

      For the first time I was able to make my own website! And a website that looks good without having to get technical. No longer will it cost you me arm and a leg to have a website presence.

      In the pages that follow I will share the basics of WordPress with you and hope that you will be just as enthusiastic as I am.

      Introduction

      This guide is designed to help you in setting up your WordPress website. You can print it and keep it handy while you go about setting up your website. It covers the basics of how to get started online. Advanced technical matters will not be covered.

      I hope you will enjoy your WordPress website and this guide will make it a little easier for you to start your website.
