About this ebook
The Fins have had a stranglehold on Sangrithar's black market since Blade founded the guild a century before the God-Emperor exiled Hali. Blade has led them all this time and many have stood at his side as guild second. The latest, Kaizal, died recently and Blade has just named young Tomello to replace him.
Snake takes place in Sangrar, the setting for the Tale of Ages. It begins in the year 4723, three years before the God-Emperor exiles Hali.

Officially, I was laid off and have a severance package to prove it, but really, it was an early retirement. Very early, I was just shy of fifty. When the time came to make the cut, I gladly volunteered. I’d had enough. Now, after three years of writing, rewriting and rewriting, I’m dipping my toe in commercial waters. I haven’t sold a word, not yet, but then again, I haven’t tried until now. Don't worry, I’m no starving artist. I provided twenty-five years of leadership as an IT executive with a Fortune 200 company. That’s a quarter century of corporate moments, some of which have already found homes in short stories. I was nationally known, in insurance technology circles, which is to say entirely unknown, led an organization commanding a nine figure budget not counting pennies, and spoke to thousands at industry events.THE CURSE OF ARVYL’S FOLLY is my first full length work seeking an audience since my fourth grade classmates were subjected to “Augusta the Dragon” forty-two years ago. After leaving Mrs. Hamilton’s classroom, I attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where I devoured fantasy and science fiction classics and became an avid gamer on my way to graduating with degrees in psychology and sociology and a minor in King Arthur. Now, I live in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and my seven year old son Neil lives on the east coast. I named my cats, China and Rider, from a Grateful Dead set list, and I still like dragons. My collection is large, Neil ran out of fingers and toes just counting the winged ornaments dangling from my mantel, and very cheesy.

Come on, let’s chat, just you and me.
Blade took Tomello’s elbow and half-guided, half-pushed him through the stunned crowd to the offices in the back of the warehouse. He had just announced that Tomello would succeed Kaizal as guild second. Blade was the Fin’s nominal leader, but the second ran the guild on a day to day basis. Choosing Tomello had surprised everyone. The odds makers had Alziri and Biraeus as the favorites and Tomello hadn’t even been on the board as a long shot.
The two older rogues were reasonably popular (Biraeus more so, Alziri could be condescending, especially with those who hadn’t proved themselves) and good at what they did. Alziri moved in the shadows like a ghost and Biraeus could charm the skin off a snake, but running the guild wasn’t a popularity contest. Alziri had reacted with the quiet gasp of someone discovering an entitlement slipping away. The fair-skinned rogue had joined the guild at the same time as his good friend Kaizal and would have bet anything the back office would be his. Biraeus’s outrage was more public. He’d cursed and stormed away.
Both were good men, but Tomello could take the guild places it had never been. The young rogue’s great instincts could size up anyone or any situation instantly and he enjoyed sticking it to the God-Emperor. The guild was more than a refuge for petty criminals. It was a base of operations to oppose the Pearl Throne and anyone affiliated with the throne was a potential target. None of the wicked were safe, not the nobles, not the Averchai, not even the God-Emperor himself if the right opportunity presented. The God-Emperor’s excesses grew worse as the curse took hold and Blade was determined to have the guild oppose him every step of the way.
Blade opened the door to the back of the warehouse, where there were a handful of offices and sleeping quarters for the guild’s second. This way.
Yes, sir.
Tomello said, but
