    Immediate Possession - Syd Parker

    Chapter 1

Regan took one last look in her rear view mirror, shook her hair out and rolled her eyes. She looked sideways at the entrance to the bar. Her best friend Cameron Lang, Cam to all her friends, was waiting, and from the look on her face, not patiently. Regan swore silently, she couldn’t get away this time.

She told Cam she would meet her at the Grind to relax and watch the drag king show. Now she regretted that decision. It had been eight months since Regan stepped foot in the bar, and she wasn’t so sure she was ready now. After things had ended seven months ago with Keely, she didn’t dare go out. Cam had tried to get her to join them, but Regan wasn’t ready. She couldn’t face the questions, the looks of concern and most of all the I told you so’s that she would certainly get. I told you not to get involved with a straight girl. Regan was living proof that the old adage, every girl’s straight till she’s not, was so not true.

Regan’s mind wandered and she could still clearly remember the day she met Keely Hughes. Regan was one of the most successful independent real estate brokers in the area. She owned a small, but distinguished company in Indianapolis, Sloan Realty, and was in the process of hiring a new agent.

Regan had been stressing over her choice to interview someone with no real estate background. Keely Hughes had graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Indiana University. She had worked at a small investment firm for six years--nothing at all in real estate. For some reason, Regan had a strong feeling she should at least interview the woman. From years of experience, she knew better than to ignore one of her feelings.

Regan, I have Ms. Keely Hughes here for her one o’clock appointment. Sarah then lowered her voice to barely a whisper and confessed And man, is she hot!

Regan chuckled at the comment, and wondered just how hot she was. Sarah, Regan’s receptionist, had a habit of going after looks and not personality. It was a sure bet if a hot woman, lesbian or otherwise, was anywhere within one hundred feet of Sarah, she zeroed in on them like a hawk and went in for the kill.

Great. Regan responded warily. "Please let her know I will be out momentarily. Make her comfortable, just not your kind of comfortable. A glass of water--you know the drill."

Sarah just laughed. She had been at Sloan Realty long enough to know that momentarily meant before she even had a chance to hang up the phone, and the obligatory water would no doubt be dismissed as quickly as it had been offered. Plus, she was currently working on her latest victim and figured adding one more in the mix would be a bad idea, fun, but bad!

When Regan made her way to the small foyer, she almost stopped dead in her tracks. Sarah had not exaggerated. Keely Hughes was ridiculously hot. She had bright blue eyes, shoulder length auburn hair that framed a strong, yet feminine face. Regan could tell compared to her 5’8" frame that Keely was a good four inches shorter than she was. She had a very petite frame, small breasts, basically a figure that made every inch of her somber navy, professional skirt suit look sexy as hell. She had legs that seemed to Regan were definitely a runner’s legs.

I can’t wait to see what her ass looks like, Regan thought.

Regan’s mind ran the gamut from jumping her right there to telling her she wanted to be the mother of her children. Holy hell, I cannot be thinking of her this way. How on earth am I going to get through the interview with her sitting across from me, looking at me with those eyes?

She managed to pull her eyes away from that heavenly body, find her voice and said authoratively, Ms. Hughes.

Keely, unaware of the thoughts running through her potential employer’s head stuck out a hand, caught Regan’s hand in a firm handshake, and said in a very sexy voice. Hi, I’m Keely Hughes. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Thank you so much for seeing me.

As she led Keely back to the office, Regan was unable to avoid Sarah’s glance and she did not miss the little smirk on Sarah’s face that seemed to taunt her with I told you she was hot, good luck with that.

From the moment Regan met Keely, she had immediately liked the woman. First because she recognized a desire to succeed in the woman’s eyes; second, they just clicked. Keely’s happy--go--lucky personality blended well with Regan’s reserved, down--to--earth personality. She sensed a kindred spirit in this woman. Plus, it wouldn’t hurt to have some new eye candy around the office. Regan offered her a job immediately and Keely accepted immediately.

Once the formalities had been handled, Regan did something she very rarely did. Rising from her desk, she looked Keely in the eyes, and asked her out for a drink.

Consider it a welcome to the office, celebratory drink. My treat or Sloan Realty’s treat, if it makes you feel better.

Keely looked as though she might be considering it, but remembered she had some prior commitment.

    I would love to…

    But? Regan interjected.

But… Keely said smiling, I have to meet my boyfriend later. He is leaving early tomorrow for work and I promised I would have dinner with him. Can I get a rain check?

Regan smiled. Sure, no problem, we can do it another time.

Great, thanks! Listen, thank you again for the job. I can’t wait to get started!

Don’t thank me yet, you may decide working for a slave driver like me is no walk in the park. You will be ready to head back to the corporate world. Regan said with just the slightest hint of sarcasm, and a small smile to belie any truth to the words she had just spoken. So I will see you in a couple of weeks. I’ll start showing you the ropes. You’ll get the hang of it in no time then comes finding the secret to actually making the sale. Although, I would say that you probably don’t have much trouble selling people, with your good looks--I mean uh, your great personality, Regan blushed.

We’ll see about that. It hasn’t gotten me too far yet, even my boyfriend seems to be immune to my good looks…I mean great personality, Keely said half--teasing, not missing Regan’s slip.

Maybe tonight will be different. Keely’s look of chagrin let Regan know that she had shared something too personal and wished to take it back.

Regan chose to take the high road and ignore the comment, although her mind was screaming at her to jump at the opportunity to find out if things weren’t all that great at home. I could certainly give her a shoulder to cry on, and whatever else she needs. That bonehead might be immune but I am having a hard time thinking of anything else.

Regan shook her head to clear that thought. Giving Keely a warm smile, she said I’ll keep you to your word on the rain check. We’ll try to get together once you are settled in here.

Keely smiled in response, offered her warm hand once more to say thank you. Regan took Keely’s hand in hers and once again felt a stirring. Watch it kid, don’t go there, she is so straight.

Regan led Keely out of the office and into the foyer. She thanked her again. We’ll see you Monday. Have a great weekend!

This time when Sarah looked at her with a knowing smirk, Regan rolled her eyes, and answered with a smirk of her own.

Don’t get any ideas about the new employee. As far as you’re concerned, she is off limits. Regan warned.

Sarah chuckled and asked smartly, Does that rule apply to the boss too?

    Chapter 2

A loud knocking brought Regan back to reality. She turned and looked out at the goofy face pressed against the window and let out a loud burst of laughter. Cam was rubbing her nipples like Fat Bastard. At the moment, she was about as sexy and attractive as Fat Bastard. She laughed again thinking about seeing all three Austin Powers movies with her best friend in the whole world. Cam, who had given up on the Austin Powers moves, was now pointing at her watch and motioning Regan out of the car.

She had met Cameron eight years earlier. Regan was just starting out in real estate. She had boldly entered Morgan James Real Estate and promptly told Seth Morgan that she would be his top agent in less than five years. He smiled and offered the feisty young woman her first job, with the caveat that she shouldn’t be disappointed if she hadn’t made number one in five years. It took her only three.

Two weeks after Regan had started an ad ran in the Indy Business Journal announcing her new position with Morgan James. That afternoon the calls started coming in.

"Ms. Sloan, my name is Richard Atkins. I’m with Walker Title Company. We’d love to provide title insurance on your listings."

"Hi Regan, Lisa Weller, I’m with First Bank and Trust. Congratulations on your new position with Morgan James. We do a lot of business with your company. I’d love to send over some information on our mortgage programs. I am positive you will realize the benefit to your clients First Bank and Trust…".

Blah, blah, blah, Regan thought, I see your mouth moving and all I hear is blah, blah, blah. At this point, Regan thought seriously of running home, making a batch of margaritas and watching some mindless lesbo flick. It’s In the Water ought to work just fine, Regan decided.

Before she could leave, the phone rang. Knowing that one of the first things they teach you is that real estate isn’t a nine to five job, you work when your adoring fans want you. Even if it does cut into my margarita time.

Taking a deep breath and finding her most professional phone voice, Regan answered the call after the fourth ring. Two rings longer than she should have, but she had no clients yet and anyone who was calling was probably just trying to sell her something.

Morgan James, this is Regan Sloan.

"Regan," a low feminine voice began, "I was checking out the new positions in the IBJ and saw that you were new to Morgan James. I own a small appraisal company here in Indy. Lang Appraisal, it’s new, I’m new, you’re new. So this is what I propose…"

    Ms. Lang, is it?

"Cameron, Cam to all my friends."

    Ms. Lang, I apprec…

"Seriously, it’s Cam. You aren’t going to make me beg, are you? Don’t get me wrong, I can, but I usually save that till the second date." Cam chuckled at her own joke. Regan, can I call you Regan, let me just have two minutes. That’s all, if you aren’t interested after that I’ll leave you alone…for a month.

Regan could hear the teasing in Cam’s voice. She had never met this woman, had only spent a couple minutes on the phone with her, but felt herself warming to Cam’s likeable personality.

Okay, Cam, you have a deal. But you are cutting into my margarita time, so you can have your two minutes, but only on the condition it’s over drinks.

"Sold! I know your office is in Broad Ripple. I am just up the road on College. I’ll meet you in ten minutes at La Jolla. Margaritas are on me. Don’t worry I know what you look like from your ad, and me? I’ll be the hottest blond in the place. See you there."

Regan heard Cam disconnect before she could reply. Now Regan was left wondering what had just happened. I am meeting some woman I’ve never met in ten, oh shit, make that eight minutes. Regan grabbed her purse, waved a quick goodbye to Sally, the receptionist, and dashed to her car.

Stupid, stupid traffic. I will never make it on time. And I care, why? Oh yeah, because I am the responsible daughter. Regan could see her mother now, hands akimbo, shaking her head at Regan. Telling her in her stern mother voice for the hundredth time, Regan, ten minutes early is on time, on time is late! I never forgot that and now I’m ten minutes early to everything.

A car horn blared behind her. Regan looked up and realized the light had turned green. She stepped on the gas, and mentally gave the finger to the man behind her. Like the light was green that long.

Realizing that finding parking along the crowded street in front of La Jolla would be impossible at this time in the afternoon, Regan drove by the entrance. Part of her looking for a spot, part of her hoping to catch a glimpse of the hottest blond in the place waiting at the front for her.

Glancing sideways, she didn’t see anyone that fit that profile. She quickly turned her eyes back to the road, made a quick right turn on Winthrop Ave, found a spot just off the alley, and jogged to La Jolla.

Regan knew she was a few minutes early, and decided to wait outside for Cam. Four minutes later, the self--described hottest blond came ambling up the steps. Regan may not have called her the hottest blond in the place, but she was good looking. She was about the same height as Regan. She had shoulder length blond hair that was pushed back off her tanned face with a pair of sunglasses. Cam looked every bit the laid back type, and she was definitely gay. She wasn’t a stereotypical butch, but she had an air about her. She carried herself in a way that sent Regan’s gay--dar into overdrive.

Hi, Cam said warmly and extended her hand. You’re even better looking than your picture and I have to say that was pretty good.

Regan grasped the hand that was offered, sensing immediately that Cam was someone she could definitely be friends with. Nothing more, she didn’t get that charge of electricity that normally happened when she met someone she could be interested in sexually. Yes, definitely friends.

The great and illustrious Cam, I am honored to make your acquaintance, Regan said teasingly. If Cam could joke around, then certainly so could she.

The pleasure is all mine. Cam responded as she brought Regan’s hand to her lips and kissed it.

Regan started laughing out loud. Cam’s face was a study in seriousness as she kissed Regan’s hand, but her eyes danced with laughter.

They walked inside and headed towards the hostess stand. Moments later a very cute brunette came their way. As if sensing what Cam was thinking, Regan looked at Cam and rolled her eyes as Cam lifted her brows in a leering arch and winked.

Is it just the two of you? the cute brunette asked.

Three if you want to join us, Cam quipped. I don’t bite…hard.

To her credit, the cute brunette only blushed a little. I only have outside seating, will that be a problem?

No, that’s cool. It gives us a chance to people watch. Or check out hot chicks.

Cam, be nice Regan said. Don’t scare the poor girl.

The cute brunette led Cam and Regan out to the patio. She put them at a table just off the sidewalk. Scott will be your waiter…he’ll be right out. Then to tease Cam, she winked at her as she made her way back inside.

Damn straight girls! They’re all cute, and they all like to tease. Cam lamented.

Regan laughed and said a quick amen. Cam turned back to Regan and began to smirk. Yeah, I had you pegged for a straight girl. Looks like I was wrong. In her best Humphrey Bogart voice, Cam said Louis, this looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Regan toasted Cam with an imaginary glass and answered back in her own Bogart voice, Here’s looking at you kid. They both dissolved into laughter, and within five minutes of meeting, each woman knew that they would be friends for life.

    Chapter 3

Cam yanked open the door of her very unattractive, yet highly versatile Honda Element. Several months after Regan had started working at Morgan James, she realized the sporty, convertible Miata had to go. There was no way she could take prospective buyers around town in that.

Get out of the car, bee--yatch! Cam shouted in feigned impatience. I’m thirsty, and I am two drinks behind Brady as it is.

Chill, you damn impatient lesbian! I’m coming…!

Not yet, but if you play your cards right you might be later. Cam said with a wink.

Riiiggghhhhtttt, so tonight is the night you finally break down and admit you are madly in love with me and want to take me home and make mad, passionate love to me.

Regan cracked up laughing, punched Cam in the arm, and headed towards the bar.

Ha, like you could handle this…I got moves you’ve never seen. This tongue should be available on Adam and Eve. Cam said referring to one of her favorite toy sites.

Oh my god, I think I just threw up in my mouth! Regan groaned loudly. Get moving, I can’t be waiting on your sorry ass all night!

Cam and Regan walked to the front door of The Grind and Cam opened the door for Regan and bowed low, showing Regan the way in with a gallant sweep of her hand.

Madam, I am at your service.

Regan grabbed Cam by the shirt and dragged her through the door. They both smiled and said a quick hello to Stevie, the tall, beautiful boy who worked weekends checking IDs and doing drag king shows.

Regan, I’m so glad you made it! I have a new number you are going to love. This one is for you.

Cool, I can’t wait to see it! I’ll tuck a few dollars if you’re good enough.

Stevie’s face lit up, and the smile spread even further. Any idiot could see she was crazy about Regan. As much as Regan liked her, it would never be more than friends for Regan. She had always preferred hybrids.

Hybrids were how she and Cam came to describe the cross over woman they usually went after. Sporty, but dress them up, and they could definitely pass for a lady.

Hey you guys have fun tonight. I’ll sing to you tonight, Regan.

Both girls waived at Stevie and made their way upstairs. Well past hanging out downstairs and dancing to bad techno music, they spent most of their time at the club’s second floor bar and stage area. The drag shows didn’t start till late so they hung out with friends and drank till it started.

Cam, Regan! They turned to the sound of the shouts and immediately waved. Regan and Cam weaved their way through tables to the small table at the far side of the room, closest to the stage.

Hey guys, I was beginning to wonder if you were going to make it. Well, really I thought you would bag out, Regan.

No, I’m here, the bitch dragged me in handcuffs kicking and screaming!

Cam started to interject, You bet you would be screa…

I know, I know, if you had me in handcuffs, you would definitely make me scream. Regan said sarcastically.

It was this way with Cam since the first time they met. Everything was about sex. Cam was a self described man trapped in a lesbian’s body. She thought about sex all the time, which was not an exaggeration.

Alright you two, break it up. Don’t make me tie the both of you up, although I still say, we would be a damn hot threesome. All three women laughed at that, knowing there were men and women that had seen the three of them and thought the very same thing.

Hey Brady, how are you? Regan asked, and reached to give her an awkward hug. It had been awhile since she talked to her friend. Last time she had seen her was shortly after getting dumped by that fucking straight girl, as Brady liked to refer to Keely. They had had a huge fight which ended in Brady storming after reminding Regan that she had told her not to get involved, first with a straight girl, and second with a coworker. Since then both had done a good job of avoiding the other, or at least it seemed like that.

Brady reached around Regan and enveloped her in a big hug. Ah hell, you know I’m fine. I miss you!

I know…I miss you too. I’m glad you are here tonight. I keep meaning to call you, but I just never get up the nerve to pick up the phone. I’m really sorry.

Hey don’t worry about it. It’s in the past. Tonight is about us, to fun, to the three hottest lesbians around.

Ah well it may be the four hottest, or at least us three and one straight girl that thinks she’s gay. said Cam.

Addie’s coming? Cool, I haven’t seen her in forever. How’s the store?

Yes, and great! Things are really taking off. Cam’s girlfriend of four years, Addie Parker, had quit her job with Ikon to start her own clothing boutique. She was now running the very successful House of Bluez on Indy’s north side. It was a small store that specialized in high end clothing, mostly jeans. House of Bluez had been open less than a year, and Addie had already been featured in several local papers as one of the fastest up and coming boutiques in the city.

She is meeting us here after she closes. Cam eyes twinkled. Anyone close to her could tell that wild Cam had been tamed by Addie. Cam liked to joke that Addie was a one night stand that lasted four years. As much as she joked,
