About this ebook

Synopsis For The Work – The Church
By Doug Vermeulen

Book 5 covers the functioning of the local church in relation to the “Go and...” scriptures in the New Testament. There is also an explanation of how the five-fold ministry interacts with the local church and on what basis.
The Work 5-fold produces cell groups and Churches during the course of their activities, and to blend the two in the course of their Work would cause confusion in terms of their respective functions.
To take control of the local cell group/Church would distort the patterns that God has laid down in His Scriptures.
Because it is the nature of cell groups and Churches to be based in a certain locality, it therefore follows that the people there know the local conditions the best. They are then known as the Local Church.
The believers in the local situation, however, become equipped as disciples for ministry under the guidance of the Work 5-fold done by the Apostles, Prophets, Pastor, Evangelist and Teachers.
The Elders in the local situation liaise with the Workers 5-fold to do the work of ministry to their fellow believers, and also to the unbelievers in their GOOD NEWS meeting.
The business of the local churches: cell groups consists in the mutual care of their various members, such as the conduct of meetings for the Covenant/breaking of bread, for Prayer, for Worship, for the spreading the Good News, for the study of the Word and for the exercise of the gifts
We need to show the new converts that such duties as reading the Bible, praying, witnessing, assembling together and giving, are the minimum requirements of Christians.
“You must look out for suitable premises and conduct your meetings.
Your meetings are your responsibility, and the regular assembling of yourselves is one of your chief duties and privileges;”
and these are fully dealt with in the detail of Church: cell groups in Book 3.
As for the Wworkers: 5 fold, they must keep their Work: 5 fold distinct from the activities of the local Church: cell groups, but must go and have fellowship with the believers in their various local gatherings: cell groups.
Local Churches trying to minister outside of their local situation fall prey to the law of diminishing returns, less and less will they be able to attend to the needs of the members of their local Church
Nowhere in the New Testament is the Church described as a national or International Church. The description of Church is always in terms of locality – The Church at or in [a local area]. [See Revelation Chapters 1 – 5]
The Wwork: 5-fold is regional. Churches remain intensely local
This is where the Work 5-fold enters the picture. The focus of the Workers 5-fold is the Corporate Body of Christ, and consists of individual ministries intensely concerned with and connected with the Corporate Body. The whole idea is quite clear in the last part of 1 Corinthians 12.
The local church: cell group is the sole authority for that area, even though the Worker: 5 fold may have founded the local church: cell group.
--- `The sole aim of all Work: 5 fold for God is the increase and up-building of the local Churches: cell groups and the establishment of those gatherings.' ---
Our Work: 5 Fold Is For Our Ministry, And Our Ministry Is For The Local Churches: Cell Groups.
Thus Book 5 covers the functioning of the local church in relation to the “Go and...” scriptures in the New Testament. Thus we have an explanation of how the five-fold ministry interacts with the local church and on what basis.
