40 Days of Prayer

About this ebook
One of the most significant numbers in the Bible is the number 40. Many of the most well known Biblical events can be connected with the number 40. Moses stayed on the mountain with God for 40 days. After Noah built the Ark, it rained for 40 days and nights. The Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years. Goliath challenged the Israelites for 40 days. David and Solomon both reigned over Israel for 40 years. Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days. Each time the number 40 appears, God does something huge. In 2012, God began to speak to my wife Barbara and I about major changes coming for our ministry, Dallas Metro Dream Center. We knew that in order for us to prepare for these changes, we needed to become the people that God wanted us to become. Our whole staff and board members read the book, The Circle Maker, by Mark Batterson. This book reminded us of a principle that we have based our entire ministry on- bold prayers changes things. Quickly after reading the book, we decided to commit to 40 days of prayer. Every morning, I sent out an e-mail devotion to set the tone for prayer for that day. Each day people began to hear about the 40 days of prayer and asked to be added to the list, and our prayer circle continues to grow. It was an incredible 40 days that made a huge difference in the lives of everyone involved.
I want to share these devotions with you. My prayer is that God will speak to you about changes He wants to make in your life. If we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us, God can take us further than we can even imagine. I challenge you to spend the next 40 days praying. What is it in your life or home that needs to be circled in prayer? Each day for the next 40 days, read the devotion and then spend time praying about it. You will be amazed at what God does.
In 2011, God gave me a verse to live by, and I have been standing on this promise ever since. Habakkuk 1:5 “’For I am going to something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” What is it that God is going to do? Ask. He will tell you.

40 Days of Prayer - Clay Wallace
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2
We are embarking on a new journey. Maybe you have been part of a 40-day prayer campaign before or maybe you are like me and this is your first. Oh, I have prayed for many things for more than 40 days but I have never made a commitment to bind together with a group of believers for one cause. It is both humbling and exciting. Today I am asking you to confirm your commitment to our Father that you will intently seek His Face for Dallas Metro Dream Center, Dallas Metro Family Fellowship, our Boards, Barbara, me, and for our staff.
Almost 30 years ago I met a young man named Bill Wilson. Some of you know Bill. When I first met him I did not understand the battles he was facing every day. What I did understand was that he had a commitment to Christ that I had never witnessed before. The Holy Spirit spoke to me that if I was ever going to make a difference, I must learn that type of whatever it takes
commitment.
Barbara and I are asking you for that type of commitment for the next 40 days. Make a commitment today to our Father that you will pray with us every day.
For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. Habakkuk 1:5
Day 2-Sinless
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
As we begin Day 2 of 40 Days of Prayer, I would like to ask you this question: Is there anything in your life that is hinders you from touching heaven? The Lord has called us to be a holy people Exodus 22:31.
There are many sermons that could be preached from 2 Chronicles 7:14. The one that jumps out at me today is, if we will humble ourselves
. I believe it is hard for us that live in the United States to be humble. It can be even harder for those of us from Texas. We are very prideful people. I want to encourage you today as you pray for DMDC and DMFF to ask the Lord if there is anything hindering your daily walk with Him? Is there anything that is hindering you to be used by Him today?
For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. Habakkuk 1:5
Day 3-Armor Up
This was not the devotion we had planned for today. We all know that when you begin to take back territory from the enemy, the battle is on. It was our thinking that later in our 40 Days we would discuss the strategies of our enemy and how we are more than overcomers. Little did we know what the last few days would bring.
Barbara has had the worst two days of health she has had in over a month. The last 4 days for me have been less than banner. We had one of the pillars of the community in West Dallas pass away. It’s a long story but let me say that he was very supportive of Barbara and I from the beginning and attended church faithfully until he could no longer get on the bus. Losing such a strong brother would be enough to deal with but that has turned out to be the easy part. His family has been challenged by the entire funeral process.
We all know Ephesians 6:10-12.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6:10-12
We cannot get mad at people or circumstances. We must realize where the battles are coming from.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Revelation 12:11
I like what they say on television commercials, Armor up!
Let’s put on the whole armor of God. Let’s do battle. Let’s see victory in our cities, in our churches, in our lives.
For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. Habakkuk 1:5
Day 4-Sacrifice
After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
Matthew 4:2
Please don’t panic. We are not asking you to fast for 40 days. I am not saying that we won’t talk about fasting, but we are not asking you to fast for 40 days.
I am reminded of the story in 1 Corinthians 8 where there was a huge debate about people eating food that had been sacrificed to idols. To my understanding, Paul said there was nothing wrong with eating the food. However, if by eating the food, it would cause a brother or sister to fall, he should not eat.
I will never forget the tragedy that happened on September 11th. After that day, I did some real soul searching about how I spent my time. There was a young man from Alabama on our staff, and you know that means there is only one football team and it has something to do with Tide (Ok, it’s Roll Tide!). It was because of him I became an avid college football fan, though it didn’t take much effort on his part. Since Saturday was our busiest day, we either taped the games or watched highlights on ESPN Saturday night. I have to admit I became consumed with college football. Outside of Metro, college football was a high priority in my life.
After 9/11, I began asking the Lord about my priorities. What were the things in my life that really didn’t matter and which things did I need to improve on? He immediately spoke to me about all the time I spent on college football. Was, or is, college football a bad thing? No. Was it taking up too much of my time? Absolutely.
Barbara and I are asking you today to ask the Lord about priorities in your life. If it meant a breakthrough for DMDC, DMFF, and the people we minister to in Dallas, would you be willing to give something up? We’re not asking you to give it up forever. We are just asking you to consider fasting something for the
