The Princess and the Smelly Dog

About this ebook
It was left to Princess Freya to open the village fair. With her sister being a pain and her Kingdom in trouble, it seemed like a welcome distraction; but a simple trip to the fair turned out to be a much bigger and smellier adventure than she could have ever imagined.
This is a children's fantasy story told over four chapters, with colour pictures.
Gemma Wood
Gemma Wood lives on the coast in England. She once spent a holiday in America, and has since fallen in love with the country, and its people. She also loves animals, and most of her books feature an animal of some sort. She trains seeing eye/guide dog puppies, and through her work appreciates just how much these dogs transform the lives of people with sight problems. Her own sight is not brilliant. She once took her dog for a run, and brought a different dog back home.

CHAPTER 1
The door burst open with such force that Freya nearly fell off her chair.
I won’t do it! It’s a stupid idea! Why should I, a beautiful princess, have to go down to those stupid commoners and open their pathetic fair?
Freya looked at her sister in shock.
Why do you get so angry, Alexis?
she said softly. Opening the fair will only take a couple of minutes; and those ‘stupid commoners’, as you call them, are our people. They look up to us. Opening their fair would mean the world to them.
Yes it would, which is why you can go down there instead. It’s not like you’ve got anything better to do, is it?
Alexis grinned, and then she marched off with her usual arrogant flounce.
Freya knew her sister was far too stubborn to ever change her mind. If that fair were ever going to be opened, Freya knew she would have to do it herself.
She left the castle escorted by her personal guard, a royal soldier called Dannan. He was always at Freya’s side, keeping a watchful eye on her, and making sure she was safe. They had been paired together for so long that Freya saw Dannan more as a friend than just protection.
Is everything okay, Miss Freya?
he asked, noticing her frowning to herself.
Mostly,
she replied. It’s just my sister. She has no respect for our people, and can be so stubborn, and now – once again - I have to do her job just because she doesn’t want to do it.
I am sure Princess Alexis does not mean to be so unhelpful. Perhaps you should just talk to her about it.
She would not listen, believe me,
Freya replied. But it’s okay. I don’t mind the extra responsibilities. I just wish I didn’t get them because Alexis couldn’t be bothered.
At least you might make some new friends at the fair,
Dannan smiled. Freya thought not, but weakly smiled back.
The day was bright, and the air crisp and cool, as it often was in the Kingdom of the North. The lower village looked stunning, full
