A former soldier, senior lecturer and author of several mainstream textbooks, Norman Price has worked as an editor for many years. Having lived and worked for several years in the Far East, his first novel 'Share a Crooked Rickshaw' is an exotic, action-packed thriller set in the 1960s when Hong Kong was a British Crown Colony. His second novel 'Chen' is a highly charged thriller set in Singapore. Brett Johnson was about to pour himself a coffee when he heard Julie Williams’ piercing scream. Peering from his window he saw that his next door neighbour was in her front garden, clearly deeply distraught. Hastily abandoning the percolator, he rushed outside to ascertain the cause of her panic and offer what help he could.
‘Julie! Whatever’s the matter?’
‘It’s Chrissie, she’s gone!’ came the hysterical reply.
‘Steady now, Julie. Now take a deep breath and tell me exactly what you mean.’
In a voice warped by emotion, Julie told him that seven-year-old Chrissie had been playing in the front garden but was nowhere to be seen when she went to call her in for her tea. ‘She’s been taken, Brett, I know she has.’
Brett quickly shook his head. ‘I very much doubt that, Julie. No, she’s just wandered off somewhere. Children are prone to do that, as you well know.’
‘No! Not my Chrissie!’
‘All right, listen, we’re wasting time. Wait while I grab my car keys and we’ll go find her. Ten seconds!’
As good as his word Brett was back in a trice and Julie’s nose was soon pressed to the side window of his grey Ford hatchback as he methodically toured four or five of the tree-lined roads adjacent to theirs. With no joy. After
