Seed of Hope (Volume 1) - S Long

    Introduction

Seed of Hope was written for you who may be struggling with life’s daily challenges.

You may be trying to overcome an obstacle that looks insurmountable. Your future prospects may seem bleak and hopeless. You may feel stuck in your routine. You may have yet to come to accept your dire situation. You may feel burnt out from life’s daily demands. Whatever it is, Seed of Hope was written to sow the seed that gets you back on track.

I am not a full-time minister, a clergyman, and definitely not a bible scholar. I am just an everyday man who goes through the same challenges you may face. I am in my 30s, married to a beautiful wife, and have a 9-to-5 job in a large corporation. I have bills and a mortgage to pay, a family to take care of, work demands to meet, and other typical life issues to handle. Like you, I have my own mountains and unique situations to overcome.

But rather than give up and be depressed over whatever comes my way, I choose to place my faith in Almighty God. I am convinced that God and His Word is my ultimate source of hope in life, if I choose to let it be so.

With that conviction, I started to write devotional articles inspired from my daily quiet time with God and His Word. Seed of Hope is the compilation of 40 articles I wrote. The purpose of each article is to sow the seed that will help you start to live a faith-filled life again.

If what I have just shared resonates with you, I urge you to read this book. This is my first faith attempt at writing a devotional book, and I am really excited about it. I pray that you will be blessed, inspired and find hope once again to continue your journey with God, who loves you unconditionally. Life with Him is indeed worth living!

    Be blessed,

    S Long

    Dedication

Hi Gabriel (you know who you are), this book is dedicated to you. I want to thank you for all that you have done for me and my family. This book is a culmination of the seeds you have sown into me and my wife’s life for the past 14 years, when we first met you.

Remember the coffee session we had in the morning of 30 January 2013? Those words of encouragement – and the Seed of Hope you have sown into my heart – were the tipping point for me to embark on the journey of writing this book. The very day after that coffee session, I went home and began to write my first article. I have not looked back since. If not for your encouragement, this would probably not have happened.

I now write this book (with many more to come!) with the same spirit that you have – to sow seeds of hope into somebody else’s life. My wife and I are grateful to God that you are in our lives. We want to wish you, your family, and your business well.

    Thank you!

    Article 1 – Giant Slayer

    Read 1 Samuel 17:1-58

"Moreover David said, The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." (v. 37)

The story of David versus Goliath is known by both Christians and non-Christians. We know how the story ends: David the shepherd boy slayed the giant with his sling and a single stone.

However, before David could stand on the battlefront to face Goliath, he had to overcome other people’s perception of him.

    1) His father expected David to be just a messenger boy bringing updates from the battlefield (v. 17-18).

    2) His brothers on the battlefield questioned David’s desire to battle Goliath (v. 28).

    3) King Saul doubted David’s ability to triumph over the veteran warrior (v. 33).

    4) Goliath himself thought David was a big joke! (v. 42-44)
