    When Danny Went to Heaven

Chapter One - A Rude Awakening

Out of the soft darkness, a bright light began to shine in Danny’s brown eyes. He blinked and blinked again, then opened his eyes wide.

Where am I? was his first thought. I guess it’s just another damn hangover! was his second thought.

He moved and expected to feel a familiar twinge of a headache, as he stood up from the soft flooring, but nothing painful came.

Didn’t get too drunk, then! he thought with wry amusement. Getting blind drunk had become a futile nightly exercise since Marissa, his last lovely girlfriend had left him.

At 29 years of age, he had a well-paid career in advertising, a new condo and a red sports car. What else, could a young man want? But inside, Danny felt hollow and lost and even more so, as he now took in his surroundings! He definitely wasn’t at home in his new apartment.

Around him everything was white, pure white. The flooring was soft and white; the softest carpet that he’d ever felt on his naked feet and he could hardly see more than a foot in front of him, as swirls of white mist surrounded him.

Maybe it’s the new hot tub, I had installed yesterday! mused Danny. It must be over-heating the water or something!

He stumbled towards where he thought the new hot tub would be located, but it wasn’t there. He remembered now, soaking in it last night after a downing a bottle of whisky. He must have knocked the controls somehow, and pushed the heating settings up too high. The steam was liable to stain his wallpaper, if only he could find the stupid thing! But no matter where he walked, he could not find the condo’s tiled balcony or the missing hot tub!

I’m afraid that you’re not going to find it here! said a melodious voice with just a hint of amusement.

Danny spun around. A beautiful, red-haired woman dressed in a long, blue robe stood smiling at him from a short distance away. Around her shoulders, she was wearing some sort of boa of white feathers that seemed to envelope her
