Just Love (Interracial Young Adult Romance) - Nicole Mckoy

    Chapter 1

I could hear Jason singing along to the infamous song Teach Me How to Dougie. That boy and his damn dougie! He couldn’t throw a party without playing that song and doing the dougie.

I pushed through the crowd of girls to get to Jason. He and one of his best friend’s (the influencer) Derek were on the bar doing their dance. Jason had his shirt off and his jeans were baggy showing off his boxers. Derek looked the same way. The only difference between the two is that Jason is white and Derek is black.

Jason get down! I shouted through the loud music.

I was standing right in front of him as he ignored me and continued to dance. This was always my role in this house. I was always saving Jason from himself. Every time his parents (my guardians) went out of town he threw parties. He would always get wasted and act a fool never remembering what happened the next morning.

Raelyn move you’re blocking the hotness, Ariel said. She was standing right beside me. Ariel is my best friend and not a good influence either. She just encourages the boys’ antics.

Jason get down! I shouted again.

I was closer to him and he was bent down a little in the middle of a dance move. He smirked at me and puckered his lips as if to kiss me.

Girl don’t stop the show this is the best part of these parties, Ariel whined. I ignored her and pushed through the crowd going to the dj booth.

I got to the dj booth to get Xavier, Jason’s other best friend.

Xavier! Come help me get Jason, I said.

Xavier was always in charge of the music at parties while Derek was Jason’s partner in crime. In all the years I’d known these boys I could never control them.

Xavier and I pushed through the crowd getting back in front of Derek and Jason.

    Guys get down, Xavier said.

The song was ending and another song was beginning anyway so the show was over. Jason and Derek got down from the bar and were now standing right in front of me.

Why you always gotta ruin a boy’s fun, Derek whined.

I rolled my eyes at him focusing on Jason. Jason you know you’re not suppose to be on the bar dancing. Last time you left scuff marks and it took me hours to clean, I said.

Can you just chill Lyn, Jason said. He looked at me buzzed.

Jason put his hands on my waist pulling me toward him as he leaned against the bar.

Why can’t you just have fun, huh, Jason said. He had a grin on his face. I wrapped my arms around his neck.

Because you get out of control wild boy, I said smiling.

    He bit his lip.

Why can’t you be a wild girl? he asked.

I laughed and let go of him moving back.

Because if I was as wild as you I wouldn’t be able to rescue you, I said.

Rescue me? Jason looked fake hurt. Baby you know I’m your superman.

Yeah, yeah. I said waving his comments off.

I turned away from him and grabbed Ariel’s hand so we could get away from the guys. But before I was out of Jason’s reach he slapped my ass. I turned around to look at him and he winked at me. I shook my head getting away from him as fast I could.

Why don’t you two just screw each other and get it over with. You both act like a couple without the title, Ariel said.

We had walked upstairs to get some piece and quite.

Ariel you know Jason and I are just friends, I said.

Raelyn you ain’t fooling no one. You both have sexual tension and flirt all the time. Don’t tell me you two don’t sleep in bed together when his parents are out of town. I know y’all ain’t knocking boots but I know y’all really close to crossing that line, Ariel said.

I couldn’t hide anything from her. Ariel, Derek, Xavier, Jason and I had been a little crew since we were kids. She knew Jason and I had some type of feelings for each other. Not that we’d ever act on them.

So what we’ve slept in the same bed. It doesn’t mean anything. Nothing ever happens and as for knocking boots we’d never do that, I said.

If his parents weren’t your guardians y’all would, Ariel said.

This was half true. You see my parents had been good friends with Jason’s parents since forever. My father and Jason’s father were friends in high school then they met our mothers in college and they’ve all been close ever since.

Back when I was twelve my father died in a plane crash and when that happened Jason’s parents took my mother and I in. It wasn’t that we didn’t have money because we did. My mother just couldn’t live in our house anymore and needed friends around. When I turned fourteen she got remarried and relocated. I didn’t want to go with her and leave everything that I knew so I convinced her to let me stay at Jason’s parents house until I graduated high school. She had made an agreement with his parents and that was that. Now I was only able to see my mom during the holidays. It wasn’t like I was legally Jason’s parents child or something but we were living under the same roof as if we were brother and sister. So for that reason nothing could happen between Jason and I.

Ariel would you just drop it. You say this all the time yet nothing has changed, I said.

Every party he throws he’s all over you. It was just last weekend at Xavier’s house we were all hanging out and you were sitting on his lap. Then we played truth or dare like children and you were dared to give Jason a lap dance. You gave him one all right, that boy was so turned on he had to get up and go to the restroom before he messed himself, Ariel said reminding me of the previous event.

Just let it go please, I begged.

No our senior year starts tomorrow and this is the year you two are going to stop doing this little dance and get together once and for all, Ariel said.

I heard a door open and looked back to see Jason, Derek, and Xavier coming up from the basement.

Why you girls out here the party’s downstairs, Xavier said.

The guys walked over to us and I felt Jason’s grab me from behind pulling me into his body. He still had his shirt off and I could feel his bare chest pressing into my back.

Come dance with me, Jason said to me.

I threw my head back a little to see his face.

    No, I said.

Please, he begged with a pout. Jason never had to work hard to get me to cave into his wants.

Fine you big baby lets go, I said.

Jason took my hand and we walked back downstairs to the basement with Xavier, Derek, and Ariel following behind.

Jason’s parents house was a mansion it had a garage that was built to fit twenty cars, the house itself was three stories, there was a huge indoor and outdoor pool with a Jacuzzi. The way the pool area was built it made the option of being outdoors just as easy as being indoors all by the simple press of a button. The house also had eight rooms and each room had its own bathroom. There were also two guest bathrooms just for company. There was a theater, a basketball court, gym, and game room/ club room. That was the room we held parties in. The room was downstairs in the basement, which was huge. The room looked like a club literally. But the best part about the room was it was sound proof, which meant none of the noise transferred through out the house when parties were being held. The basement club game room was set up for Jason specifically to entertain guess.

It was an understatement to say his parents spoiled him. He was an only child so it was expected. But since I began living with them at fourteen they’d practically treated me like a daughter and I was just as spoiled.

We all got back downstairs and everyone was dancing. The song Make Love by Chris Brown featuring Tyga was playing. Jason and I began moving to the music I had my back to him and I was grinding on him. This kind of dancing was nothing new between us. We always danced with each other for fun.

Jason and I moved together with the music as if it was only the two of us in the room. He was pressed right into my back and moving at a confortable pace.

You’re always sexy when you dance on me, Jason whispered. His lips were right on my ear. I blushed and moved a little slower just to tease him.

I thought I was the black girl that didn’t have any dance moves or a booty, I said.

Jason had once made it a point to tell me that I was the only black girl he knew that couldn’t dougie and didn’t have a booty.

Lyn you can’t dougie to save your life and you don’t gotta booty that is true. Now your grinding techniques they’re up to par, Jason said.

I danced on him until the song finished then I went off to talk to Xavier.

When I got to Xavier at the dj booth Cambria walked in. The basement entertainment room had an outside entrance so people who arrived to parties didn’t have to walk through the house. Jason’s parents knew the public entrance was necessary because they didn’t want random kids running through their house.

Cambria was Jason’s ex girlfriend now part time booty call. No one ever knew her real status with him because it was always changing.

I saw Cambria find Jason, they shared a hug and then they walked over to the bar to get a drink. I wasn’t going to watch them all night it would just drive me crazy. They were drama half the time whenever they got together.

Cambria was a curvy black girl. She wasn’t fat but had thickness in all the right places (Jason’s words not mine). She also had a booty (again Jason’s words not mine). I really didn’t know what he saw in her. Cambria was one of those girls that loved attention and did anything to get it.

    Cambria’s here, Ariel said.

She walked over to the dj booth to join Xavier and I.

I know I saw her walk in, I said.

I wish Jason would just wake up and smell the opportunist, Ariel said.

Ariel never cared for Cambria. The second Jason started dating her back during freshman year Ariel had a problem. When Jason dumped her Ariel was glad but quickly lost that happiness when Jason had made her a permanent hook up buddy.

I’m really over this party I’m going upstairs. I should get some rest for school tomorrow, I said.

I told Ariel and Xavier bye. I didn’t bother to say bye to Derek because he was macking on two girls right beside Jason who was talking to Cambria.

When I got upstairs I got ready for bed putting on my sports bra and boy shorts. I usually slept in boy shorts and a sports bra instead of pajamas. I just found them more comfortable.

I had been asleep for a good two hours when I felt a dip in my bed. Someone got under the covers with me wrapping an arm around me pulling my body into theirs. I knew it was Jason.

Not with Cambria tonight, I said sleepily.

Jason buried his face into the crook of my neck.

I wanted to be with you, he said against my skin. I turned over to look at him.

We lay staring at each other in the darkness for a moment

Is the party over? I asked.

    Jason moved closer to me.

Yeah. But you’re going to need to clean the basement tomorrow after school, Jason teased.

He was saying it as a joke but I usually was the one who ended up cleaning up his party messes with Ariel.

You’re such a jerk, I said, while playfully hitting his chest and turning back over.

Jason moved so we were cuddled up together with his arm around me once again.

But you still love me, he whispered in my ear.

I was silence and so was he. We let that be the last words said before we fell asleep.

    Chapter 2

The next morning I woke up in bed alone. This wasn’t all that odd because if Jason ever slept in bed with me he’d be up before me anyways.

I got up and made my bed then got in the shower. It was my last first day of high school. It was surreal to think that next year I’d be starting college. How time flies when you’re a teenager.

I took my shower then did my hair and makeup. I picked out a leucadia navy skirt and a blue striped fallbrook strapless top, both made by Hollister. I chose to wear my Alti Spiked Red Sole Pumps by Christian Louboutin. My handbag of the day was going to be my Louis Vuitton speedy in the traditional print. I gave myself a look in the mirror before going downstairs. I was pleased with my appearance so I walked out of my bedroom and made my way down to the kitchen.

When I got downstairs to the kitchen I grabbed a blueberry muffin and sat on the counter.

The kitchen was so huge. There was an island in the middle with an over look to the side were the dinner table was. Then you had the fridge, stove, oven, and microwave, as well as the cabinets and pantry surrounding.

I was finishing up my muffin when Jason came downstairs. He walked into the kitchen wearing a pink dolphin ocean camo jumbo P tee in black, a pair of AG hero relaxed straight leg Kearney jeans, and some limited edition sneakers of some short. I didn’t know much about the guy’s shoe game now a days. Every other week Jason was buying some limited edition Jordan’s or something like that.

    You look beautiful, Jason said.

He came up to me and stood in front of me.

You look like you have swaggy, I said.

I was holding back a laugh.

Babe it’s called swag. I’m not a belieber so I don’t use your terminology, Jason said.

I knew he hated my slight obsession with the biebs. But I just couldn’t help it the boy was talented.

You ready to go, I said.

Jason nodded and gave me his hand to help me off the counter.

We walked to the huge underground garage. The garage had twenty cars and Jason and I had a choice of which one to drive whenever we left the house. Jason most of the time drove us everywhere but I had my license just in case I needed to go somewhere on my own.

Jason grabbed the keys to the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. It was a 2013 model that wasn’t even out yet. Jason’s dad had gotten the car before its release because his car dealer hooked him up with an exclusive deal.

Jason opened the door for me and I got in then he got in and we were off to school.

When Jason pulled into the senior parking lot he parked his car right in between Xavier and Derek’s cars. Xavier and Derek were already sitting on the hoods of their cars with Ariel.

I got out of the car and gave Xavier and Derek hugs along with Ariel. Jason exchanged hellos with the crew. Then he sat on the hood of his car and I stood in front of him leaning back on him. He had his arms wrapped around me and I liked the feeling of being in his arms.

It’s senior year guys! We’re all getting old, Xavier said.

    We all laughed.

We’re only seventeen and eighteen year olds I don’t think any of us need any viagra just yet, Derek teased.

You always got something smart to say, Xavier said.

That’s because you always got something dumb to say, Derek said.

We all sat talking and laughing until it was time to get inside for homeroom. We were planning out our next week’s events. We had a lot of time on our hands for the most part because this was like a throw away year we all had our grades up and most of our credits out of the way. This was going to be an easy year to get through.

My parents don’t get back for another week so we can all hang out at my crib for the week, Jason suggested.

We all agreed because hanging out at Jason’s house was like hanging out at an amusement park. It had everything.

Ariel and I were talking while the guys were making other plans for the week. I was snapped out of the conversation when I heard a motorcycle speeding into the senior parking lot. I looked over see a guy parking his motorcycle a few spaces away from where we were.

The guy got off his bike pulling off his helmet. He shook out his hair and I was mesmerized. He was in full on biker gear with a black leather jacket and jeans. He looked mysterious. He had to be new because I knew I had never seen him before.

The guy started walking toward the entrance of the school and I watched him the whole way. He hadn’t noticed my staring but I was sure noticing him.

You could close your mouth you’re drooling all over the guy, I heard the guys say.

I snapped out of the trans I had been in and looked at my friends that were all staring at me.

Should have took a picture it would have lasted longer, Derek teased.

Oh leave her alone guys. She’s entitled to drool over a hot boy if she wants. You know she needs a rebound from Rick the d….Ariel said.

Ariel! I shouted. I had to cut her off from her common insult to my ex boyfriend Rick.

We all know that guy was a d…. Jason started.

I put my hand over Jason’s mouth to keep him from saying what I had kept Ariel from saying. I looked at Jason in the eye and something about the way he was looking at me had up to something written all over it. Before I knew it he had licked my hand. I pulled my hand away wiping it on his shirt.

    You’re such a jerk, I whined.

He just laughed and so did the rest of the group.

I moved away from Jason and linked arms with Ariel so we could get to homeroom. I was so glad I had Ariel to save me from the boys sometimes.

We walked the halls and were heading to our lockers when I saw him. The guy from the parking lot was walking out of the main office and in my direction. I looked at him as he walked toward me. I was sure he was going to say something to me but then he just walked past me.

    Someone’s sprung, Ariel joked.

I looked at her and realized I had been yet again drooling over the unknown boy.

Ariel and I stopped by our lockers to put our things away and then headed to our homeroom. When we got in the classroom the boys were already in the back row waiting with our seats saved. It was kind of our thing to sit together in all our class in the back row.

Ariel went to sit by Xavier and I sat by Jason then it was Derek on the other side of Jason. So our row consisted of Xavier at the end, then Ariel, Derek, Jason, and then me. There was one seat open beside me and I just hoped whoever sat next to me wasn’t annoying or someone I didn’t get along with.

My friends and I all had our seats right next to each other and pushed back to the wall behind us so it was as if we were all sitting on a long bench. I leaned on Jason and his arm was around my waist.

Is someone sitting here? someone asked.

I had been laying my head on Jason’s shoulder watching him do something on his phone when an unfamiliar voice asked me a question.

I looked up to see mystery boy from the parking lot. I was just staring and staring until he asked me the same question again.

No, no ones sitting here the seat is all yours, I said.

The guy smiled and took a seat next to me. I sat up and moved my chair up a little so I could be closer to the mystery boy.

So are you new? I asked.

The guy looked over at me.

Yes, my name’s Dylan, he said.

Dylan. That was such a cute name. Ok Ariel was right I was sprung.

    My name’s Raelyn, I said.

He smiled. His smile was amazing he had perfect teeth.

I heard Jason clearing his throat behind me as if to get my attention but I ignored him.

So you just move to town or just new to this school? I asked.

I’m just new to this school. I use to go to private school but I got kicked out, Dylan answered.

    Why? I asked intrigued.

Because I’m a rebel and I don’t listen to authority, Dylan said seriously.

    You’re kidding aren’t you, I said.

Yes and no. I’m was joking about being a rebel but not about not listening to authority.

    We all have our flaws.

I guess we do. What’s yours?

Now I can’t tell you that. I just met you and I need to make a good impression so I think I’ll saving the crazy facts about me once you think I’m normal.

Who’s to say I don’t think you’re strange right now.

Well if you already think I’m strange I really need to do damage control.

Girl with a sense of humor, I like that.

Guy with a great smile, I like that.

The second I said that I was embarrassed. How could I be so forward?

Girls who let their feelings be known right away, I really like that, Dylan said.

Dylan and I locked eyes and in a second I felt Jason put his arm around me.

You going to introduce us all to your new friend Lyn, Jason said.

Takes Jason to ruin a moment.

Everyone this is Dylan. Dylan these are my friends, Xavier, Ariel, Derek, and this here is Jason, I said.

Yeah I’m her lover, Jason said jokingly.

I hadn’t taken it as a joke because Jason still
