Preface:
Africa is a fascinating place, a hotbed for experiencing many sights and sounds not only of the beautiful wildlife but everything to do with the paranormal. The fact is this land, as ancient as time itself, is filled with many cultures many of which can trace their roots to several thousand years. This fabled land is also marked by a strong tradition of ancestral worship with a great deal of emphasis paid to many Gods and Goddesses each endowed with their own human attribute. Yet, as intriguing as it is, little is known about the culture and beliefs of this fascinating people. The fact is this land is filled with a mystery that houses the old and the new where superstitions can thrive right in the heart of the city amidst rising buildings and a fast rising techno society coming to grips with the internet and telecommunications world.
From one end of the African continent to the other, stories simply flourish about the colorful ghosts which inhabit Africa and of the strange creatures that are best kept away from prying eyes one of which is the frightening Tokolosh no one needs around. This goblin said to be hairy with a teddy bear like face, has been blamed for much of the misfortunes and troubles across Africa. Witchcraft is also a common pursuit in this part of the world. Africans have a genuine ability in understanding nature and hence, white and black witchcraft are practiced accordingly - just be sure which side you tread on because the effects are real and sometimes, can be unfortunate especially with curses. This you will notice as you read about what happened to one poor family in Zimbabwe. Then you might be really curious about the house that received a poop attack! You see, anything can happen anywhere - in a hospital, home or school, just anywhere in Africa. Some take it in their strides and those who ignore the blatant effects of witchcraft can suffer in the most terrible way.
As you read Haunted Africa, you will also find a piece I have dedicated towards the killing of children for use in cult sacrifices. Many children are inducted all across Africa every day into satanic cult groups. Demon possession is common among such children but what is even more distressful is the use of their body parts for summoning magic and the creation of powerful spells. These spells conjured by greedy sangomas are designed to improve the prestige and power of the criminal and the greedy politicians and as long as this continues, there will always be a child sacrificed in Africa to satisfy the cravings of these heartless power mongers. There's no end to human sacrifices and my report reflects the need to arrest the killing of children and women. The only way to stop that is when the government interferes to contain the problem but in many countries like Kenya, this is not happening even though African commissions are set up at the international level to stop this evil from continuing. But parents have found a way in part to stop this. They have their children circumcised. That renders the children impure and not suitable for sacrifices but how do you stop when the parents themselves use their children as sacrifices to get wealth and good fortune their way? No one can understand that but it happens every day in Africa when ruthless sangoma parents use their children as baits in exchange for favors from the dark forces.
In Part 1 of the Haunted Africa series, you will delve into the spooky corners of Africa visiting the Cape of Good Hope Castle and also take a peek into the blood thirsty witch who made her way into one local hospital. Some say she's a vampire but no one quite knows what the nurse saw that day. Then brace yourself for some stories on the haunted house in Zimbabwe and about the mysterious hitchhiker who has become quite the story in South Africa and while you're at it, you would have savored the stories about the Flying Dutchman, many of the sightings having been recorded by people you would least expect to know.
Part I of this series promises a lot of intriguing stories to read about haunted Africa and whether you are in Uganda, Kenya or Tanzania, there are many stories told about demonic attacks in schools and hence, some of my stories are told about what these are and why schools close. Some stories are made to laugh, some told to frighten and many are simply told to inform. Africa is a fun place to be in and is filled with wonders of all sorts. People live to tell ghost stories over and over again, so here are some which will surely add an interest for a night out in the camp site or as an interesting conversational piece when the night is young and the moon is yet to be seen and when the spirits of the night are well up and ready to go….
South Africa's Mischief Maker:
Ever heard of the Tokoloshe? Maybe, you haven't but this intriguing creature, oh well, not so intriguing really when you find out what it does, is quite the character from a traditional African folklore!
