    Self-esteem refers to the way someone looks at him/herself. It is the psychological term which is used to reflect a person’s self-worth based on his/her overall appraisal and evaluation.

    Self-esteem relates to a person’s belief of him/herself as well as the emotions that they have towards themselves. We all have certain beliefs and emotions towards ourselves. What beliefs and emotions we have towards ourselves is what defines a person’s self-esteem. If you have positive beliefs and emotions towards yourself, you will have positive a positive self-esteem. If you have a negative one, you will have a negative self-esteem.

    Roy Baumeister, a psychology professor, described that a person’s esteem is influenced by a person’s self-concept. The self-concept isn’t a reality of who he is, but merely what one believes to be his identity. The influence of a person’s self-concept has been known to influence deeply how he/she views life and an accurate predictor of many outcomes such as career success or academic achievement.

    How we view ourselves affects how we view the world. What beliefs and emotions we have towards ourselves affect our view of the world and thus of our lives itself. It is an important aspect toward living a fulfilling life due to its close relation to psychological well-being. For someone who is looking to life a fulfilling life, there is a need to improve their self-esteem.
