      The motel was quiet, as you'd expect late in the evening. In one room a young woman was about to turn in for the night, as soon as she'd had a relaxing shower. On the way to the bathroom, she reflected on her good fortune in finding such a pleasant place, though it was curious that it had so many vacancies. She'd also noticed the ancient, dilapidated mansion sitting atop the hill behind the motel, a flight of stone stairsteps leading up the side of the hill slowly being overtaken by grass and weeds.

      Luxuriating in the warmth of a hot shower, she could feel herself relaxing. Just what I need, she thought, to help me get a good night's sleep. Turning slowly to let the water rinse the remaining suds from her body, she found herself momentarily facing the shower curtain. Suddenly, without warning, the shower curtain was ripped aside. While only a second or two remained for her in this life, it was enough to see what appeared to be a woman wearing a dress and a shawl…or was it a man?…and to feel the butcher knife
