    The telegram that has just arrived brings good news for Doctor Beth, giving her something to look forward to. However, it also reminds her of another telegram that her guardian aunt received on her behalf twenty years earlier. Ever since, Beth has waited. This is a short story of the grim affects of racial and ideological prejudice which can rear its head in the least likely of places and the long-lasting pain caused.

I brought out a glut of little books as soon as I realised self publishing was an option, but now I am settling down to produce one novel and a collection of other stories each year. A grandfather of three angels, happily married for 42 years to another angel, living in Hampshire, England, about 35 miles west of London. I had worked for over 40 years as a printer and proofreader but retired in 2015 and hoping to spend more time writing. Also an editor of a community magazine, football programmes and have written weekly sports reports now for almost 20 years in local newspapers. Now concentrating on romantic fiction, mostly short stories, with occasional novellas and novels. Proud to be a member of the KCEditions independent publishing house of Canada.

      Beth Wojciechowicz opened the telegram as soon as it arrived on July 1st and smiled. It was confirmation that she had been expecting, accepted as part of the USA Olympic Team going to Munich, departing in five weeks’ time, on August 18th 1972.

      In fact she had three different roles confirmed by the telegram, her main role was doctor, part of the medical team, but she was also a reserve for the 100 and 200 meters as well as a squad member of the 4 x 100 meters relay team. At 27, she was probably at her peak of fitness but still regarded herself as a purely amateur athlete. Most of the top athletes were totally professional. Although she
