Golfers love to share golf stories!
RJ Smiley, who has spent over 7,000 days at the golf course, has been collecting.... and telling golf stories his entire life. The individual stories in all volumes of Golf Tales were written by RJ Smiley. However, many of the story Ideas come from fellow golfers from around the world. Varying degrees of poetic license have been used in telling the stories where some names and golf course locations have been changed.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TROPHY
I first felt the surge of competitive juices,
that sport induced adrenalin rush, while caddying for my dad, Big John as he was known, in the final nine holes of the 1952 Southwest Kansas Sand Green Golf Championship.
Sand Green Golf, the poor step-child to the game we watch on television, represents a mid-point somewhere between the early sea-side golf played on sheep pastures, and the lush manicured oasis that we call golf courses today.
The Championship venue was Fort Hays Country Club in Hays, Kansas, a wind-swept, hill-top, 9-hole golf course built on the of historic grounds of old Fort Hays. It may have been sand a green golf course, on a historic blood soaked battle ground,
