Richard Freeland

I write horror and thriller fiction as well as non-fiction about gardens and landscapes. I'm a fair singer/songwriter, and a family man. I love to travel and hike with my wife Martha, play a little tennis when my bum knees let me, make and sip a great margarita, play on the water with boats, and go on adventures with my two boys. I also love Jekyll Island, Georgia, our home-away-from-home, and have another website devoted just to our adventures on this wonderful island (www.jekyll-island-family-adventures.com). Hope you enjoy my writing, and keep a weather eye out for "Seed", my upcoming novel.

Another bar, a sports bar this time, the fourth or fifth of the evening, Sloan had lost count. He hunched over the table, curled around his shot glass, and stared through an alcohol haze at Don McLeory, who returned the look with a sardonic grin and raised his glass in a toast.

To the Three Marketteers! McLeory said. Sloan thought this might be the third time McLeory had made that toast, but his higher cognitive powers seemed to be out to lunch, so he couldn't be sure. The noise from the boisterous crowd cheering the home team didn't help. Sloan felt a headache coming on.

He raised his glass and tapped it against McLeory's. Across the table, Perry Pickerel followed suit, his smile wide and empty. Sweat beaded his balding head.

They knocked back their drinks, and McLeory flagged down a harried waitress for another round.

Pickerel slouched back in his chair. He'd loosened his tie, and his shirttail hung free around his hips. Sweat rings stained his armpits. Sloan thought that, despite his disheveled appearance, Pickerel still managed to look like the accountant he was.

Now Pickerel slapped the table, nodded at McLeory.

You the MAN! he said. You aced that presentation. Keller and Ross never knew what hit 'em. We walked away with that contract, yeah, we… he belched, took a quick hit from his glass. Yeah, us. Me, and Trevor. And you, Don. Mostly you, you swinging dick.

Sloan thought the look Pickerel laid on McLeory was something more
