Literature, poetry, music, the art of performance: all matters of who we are. Conceptions of self and community are everything. We are who we are because of the way we see ourselves, as well as our perceived connection (or lack thereof) to our planet and fellow companion species.
This book of poems is about identity, journey, self-discovery, and arrival. The first section consists of selected poems from 2001 through summer 2008. Young Brown Poet,
October Myst
and Sea of Glass
appear as music tracks on my debut album Up Before the Sunrise (2008, CHiTT Productions).
SELECTED POEMS: 2001 – 2008 begins with reflections on personal identity struggles and then moves into meditations on broader social justice issues and more abstract conceptions of self, time, and space. The ordering of these poems reflects my ongoing growth as a writer, stylistically and thematically.
The second section, MOLINA SOLEIL: THE AGE OF REVISION, contains portions of a body of work I wrote in November 2008 while traveling alone in Europe. I wrote these poems during a profound moment of transcendence in my life. These poems reflect a fresh direction for me as an emcee, poet, and performance artist, and also as a human being.
My pen has waited patiently to write these new poems. I believe in them, because these poems are stories of suns, moons, and earths. These poems are star poems. Poems of love, light, and inspiration. These are OUR poems. I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect them back unto you.
