      I wrote this book to cover a subject that’s simple and discussed often, but that’s also all too often considered taboo in the business world. I’m going to begin this discussion by asking you to consider a couple of simple questions. I want you to try and think about your possible answers without actually answering.

      First: What’s the relationship between modern employers and their employees?

      This surely brings up a number of possible answers.

      Now, ask yourself the same question with one modification: "What is the relationship between employers and their employees, when it comes to their company retirement programs?"

      Employers and employees most certainly do form a relationship that must be nurtured to grow. Providing a quality, well-run employee retirement program can bring this vitally important employer/employee relationship to a place that makes the relationship a special one, indeed, benefitting all sides of the equation in the process.

      This special relationship is one of the important issues I hope to address with this book, specifically as it applies to an employer who wishes to offer the most successful employee retirement plan possible.

      There are a lot of serious ins and outs to consider. It’s really not too different from setting sail in a boat or planning an important vacation trip. Navigating the best attributes of a successful employee retirement program requires some planning and information, to follow a distinct path that takes you and your employees where you aim to be.

      This book, then, was written for the benefit of business owners, CEOs, and human resource managers, but it can likewise prove extremely useful to any reader who wants to learn more about retirement programs and the various options available.
