About this ebook
In this book, Dr. Roy B. Blizzard presents a historical view of the Mountain of God (the Temple Mount), the individuals associated with it, the structures that occupied the site, as well as the present condition and future implications. Perhaps no other spot on earth is considered so sacred or is surrounded by so much tradition and/or legend as Mount Moriah – the Holy Mountain, the Mountain of God, the “Mountain of the Lord.”
Dr. Blizzard describes the First and Second Temples in detail – their location, construction, furnishings, and inner courts – citing biblical and historical sources throughout.
A vivid picture emerges as he explains the political, economic, and social forces that led to the rise and fall of the Temples, their destruction, and the building of the Dome of the Rock and El-Aqsa Mosque.
In conclusion, Dr. Blizzard considers these important questions: Does anything remain of the Temple? What happened after the destruction of the Temple? Where was the Holy of Holies really located?
"The Mountain of the Lord" paints an intriguing picture of the intertwined history of Israel, Jerusalem, and the many religions that have battled for the Temple Mount. (Length: 8,000 words).

CHAPTER 1
THE TEMPLE MOUNT
Over the years, no subject has elicited so many questions as the Temple of God in Jerusalem. Certainly no subject or place has been the focus of so much misinformation as has been the Temple. The subject is fascinating and the information at our disposal is voluminous.
I certainly do not intend an exhaustive treatment of the subject in so little space. I do, however, want to present to you a basic thumbnail sketch of the Mountain of God, the individuals associated with it, and the structures that occupied the site, as well as the present condition and future implications.
Perhaps no other spot on earth is considered so sacred or is surrounded by so much tradition and/or legend as Mount Moriah – the Holy Mountain, the Mount of the Lord.
The Temple Mount
Mt. Moriah, the mountain on which the Temple was erected, is known in Jewish legend as the spot where Adam was born and where he built an altar to God; where Cain and Abel offered their sacrifices and where Noah built an altar after the flood (Gen. 8.20).
Tradition has it that it was here on this Mount of the Lord
(Gen. 22:14) that Abraham prepared to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. David purchased the threshing floor of Araunah
to build an altar unto the Lord
(II Samuel 24:21) and finally it was chosen as the site of the permanent altar in the Holy of Holies of Solomon’s
