Psalm 82:5 – They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course
THE MASK
At the end of the day, at home, behind closed doors
A soul sits alone
Reflecting on the voyage of this past day
No one knows the soul behind the mask worn this day
Sure, they know the smiling face
But behind the closed door,
They do not see the demons chased away
The ones this soul fought against to live another day, peacefully
Hopefully, I will look beyond the mask
And embrace the soul wearing it
DIDN’T EVEN NOTICE
He lived a life
His heart filled with hate
No one knew the reason
Then venom slowly poisoned his soul
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
His death and burial went unnoticed
She lived a life of jealousy
Always envious of her sister, who loved her dear
She had to outdo her in everything
No one knew the reason
That green eyed monster possesses her soul
Too proud to pick up the phone and call
Her name listed in the obituaries
Unnoticed
Some hold grudges, some harbor hate
Some practice prejudice and live in a world of envy
Life is so short, from the cradle to the grave
It’s sad when death takes you away
And no one even notices
AT HOME, MORE OR LESS
We’ve shared the pain
Been pricked by the poisonous needle tip
Braved the frigidity of being shunned by the world
The high and mighty
The tidy and uptight
We never fell off the deep end
But the shallowness of hypocritical winds
Continue to give us frost bite
We are day walkers
Seeking momentary safe havens
Huddling as close as we can get
Tonight, under a quarter moon
We survived for one more day
USELESS LANGUAGE
It was not the force of your fist
It was not the force of a kick
It was the sharpness of your tongue
The words were like blunt force trauma to my spirit
Word after word of derogatory cruelness
If I could shut off my hearing, I would
A verbal flogging
