25 Insider Tips Home Buyers Should Know - Tara Benson
Introduction
Turning the key in the lock on the front door of the home you just purchased is a momentous occasion. Whether it took years of scrimping and saving for a down payment or simply writing a check, it is a milestone in your life. No longer do you live with mom and dad. No longer do you write rent checks to a landlord. No longer do you have to ask for permission to paint the walls. It is yours.
Yours to paint, yours to mow, yours to decorate, yours to clean, yours to build equity, and yours to sell for retirement. Home ownership is the cornerstone to the American Dream and you just became a key carrying member. Welcome.
I will help you realize that dream. Now you are a home buying rookie. You may feel overwhelmed, frustrated and frankly clueless. And that is understandable. Home buying is not always a quick and easy process. You don’t have time in your busy life to take time consuming courses or read jargon heavy 5000 page books on home buying. That’s why I am glad you are here. What you have before you is a primer that every home buyer should read. Whether this is your first house or your 100th, you will learn something here that will save you time, money or gray hair.
I am tired of hearing about home buyers getting mistreated, frustrated, forgotten about, mislead, or cheated. It doesn’t need to be that way. You are your best advocate when it comes to protecting yourself and what is most likely to be the biggest financial investment you make in your lifetime. You do not need a PhD in Real Estate to be successful and get the home of your dreams.
My goal here is to take my years of experience working with home buyers, home sellers, mortgage people, banks, inspectors, and all other players in the real estate game and help you navigate your way to a great deal. You will find insider information, tips, tricks, and secrets that will help you go into the home buying process with your eyes open.
1) What is a Buyer Agent?
You drive through a great neighborhood and find a house with the sign out in the yard. You think how cute that house looks, the yard is clean and there’s an adorable dog that lives next door. The inside will probably be just as cute. In your excitement, you start to dial the number on the sign under Real Estate Agent Sally Sunshine’s smiling face. STOP! Put the phone down and step away. As a buyer, you do not call the listing agent of a home for sale. The harsh reality is the listing agent WORKS FOR THE SELLER. This means they have a fiduciary responsibility to that seller. That’s a fancy word meaning their job is to get the most amount of money for their client, the seller.
What does that mean for you? That means they have to try to get you to pay the most amount
