Chapter 1
In the sparsely decorated maternity room Toby dozed lightly in the uncomfortable plastic chair, Fiona counted the minutes between contractions six minutes another contraction hit, her cry was drowned by the crash of thunder from the storm that raged outside.
Toby woke with a start and grabbed his wife's hand You okay
he said softly, Yes
she replied, It's six minutes now that was the most painful so far
Toby squeezed her hand, I'll call the midwife at five minute intervals
he reassured her.
Five minutes, six minutes the contraction hit again as Fiona cried out, a bright yellow light filled the room a figure stood in the center of the light Toby heard the man say You have a boy, he is gifted, he will arrive soon
Fiona heard Ask your son to ease your pain, he will heed your request
the light faded and vanished, the couple looked at each other. each recounted what they had each heard the figure say, Fiona placed her hand on her bump and said Please ease my pain my son
.
After four minutes Fiona felt the contraction but had no pain, Call the midwife
she said with some urgency. Toby rang the call bell, a minute later the midwife bustled through the door, five minutes later Fiona was holding her son. The midwife packed away her kit and said that is the easiest birth I have ever had, you have a very healthy lad, the Doctor will be round in the morning, get some sleep
then left.
Toby took his son and placed him in the crib, the baby gurgled and fell asleep. He sat on the side of the bed and held his wife, Are you o/k?
he asked I am fine surprisingly, was I dreaming or did that vision really happen?
Toby thought for a moment Oh yes it was real, I have been trying to work out the background behind the man, I think it was sand and what appeared to be a pyramid but bigger than any I have ever seen, as for the message, his language was ancient, possibly Egyptian but before the age of the Pharaoh's, I mean really ancient, I think we each heard what was directed at us, I couldn't understand some words.
They mused over the event for about an hour when they both stopped and looked at the crib, both said together He's hungry
they looked at each other in amazement, twenty minutes later the baby was fed and changed and back to sleep.
Toby suddenly laughed, we didn't consider boy's names
, Fiona was about to say something in reply when they both heard My name will be Samuel
they both stared at the crib where the baby slept, Samuel it is then
said Fiona, This is a bit un-nerving, how does he do that?
said Toby.
Nine o'clock the next morning came quickly, the Doctor declared mother and child fit to go home.
Ten o'clock, Toby, Fiona and Samuel Brown got into a taxi and headed for home, They had a large apartment attached to the Department of Antiquities where Toby was Chief Archaeologist and Fiona his researcher.
The taxi pulled up under the canopy covering the semi circular driveway to the apartment block, the commissionaire George opened the door, Welcome home Sir, Madam, Oh Sir there is an old gentleman in your office, say's he has a package for a Samuel Brown, I told him that I didn't know a Samuel Brown but he insisted, the clerk Graham is with him.
Thankyou George, meet Samuel Brown
said Toby indicating the carry cot.
Toby and Fiona made their way across the marble foyer to the lift, they got out on the first floor and took Samuel directly to Toby's office, it was a large untidy office, a large walnut desk sat in the center, shelves adorned with all types of artefacts were fixed to all the walls, in one of the seats by the door sat an old man, slightly balding holding a package, the clerk Graham was pacing up and down.
As Toby opened the office door the old man slowly rose out of the chair Are you Samuel Brown?
he said wheezing slightly, No I am Toby Brown, what do you know of Samuel?
the old man looked at the package and sat down in the chair again, he looked up at Toby and said "this package was placed in our care when the company was first started by my great grandfather, the instructions were very precise, it was to be delivered to this address on this date and placed
